BTDT moms who rocked DC to sleep

Did they just one day stop needing you to rock them or did you have to do CIO or something like that?

DS can put himself to sleep in the middle of the night but can not do so for naps or bedtime. We've had two unsuccessful attempts at CIO for naptime. He will be 1 tomorrow.

Eventually they learn and want o do it themselves. I rocked my 2 boys to sleep....we swore we'd be rocking them until college. After they weaned from the night bottle it was easier to stop it...but it could have been like 2ish??? I think we'd replace bottle in rocker to a book in rocker and eventually book in bed for one. For awhile I'd have to hold his hands while he was in bed until they feel asleep. I know with my older son, we'd read him a bunch of books and lay on his floor until he feel asleep for a bit. Eventually we'd tell him we'd have to go bathroom or my DH would say he'd have to go shave and he would just fall asleep on his own. Never did CIO and it was fine and easy and it worked for us. Rocking or waiting with them was never like an hour long process so it was easier to do than to force the issue.

Funny - now I have a baby girl (she is 5 mos)- who falls asleep on her own. We never expected to tried to do that - she just does! She dozes on her bottle and we put her in her crib and she lays there and falls asleep. We have even put her down for naps awake and she falls asleep on her own. We actually feel bad/guilty not rocking/cuddling her !! : ) Enjoy your cuddle time with them - it goes too fast!

DD stopped wanting to be rocked at night I think at 9 months. I loved it and kept trying but DD wasn't having it anymore. It was right around when I stopped BFing.

dd is 14 months and I used to rock her. She doesn't/hasn't wanted it in a long time. She fights me now to get down. She squirms, so now I just put her in her crib and she usually cries for 10 minutes then she's sleeping. This is for bedtime and nap time

DD #1 I rocked to sleep until she was 2 1/2 years old. I was a FTWM and I didn't mind rocking her to sleep one bit. It was our special time. By 2 1/2 she grew out of it.

DD #2 I was a SAHM and I started rocking her for naps and at bedtime. I got pg with DD#3 right away and found out they would be only 10 months apart. So when she was around 7 months I let her CIO and it worked out fine.......

I loved rocking them thoughChat Icon

DS stopped on his own around 9 months.... but then he became dependent on going to bed with a bottle. Still trying to break that habit at 21 months old!
