Daycare moms
My DD is 5 months old today and is in FT daycare which is $1400/month. I always think abut if/when we have a 2nd child how in the world are we going to afford child care for 2 kids! Granted DD will be at least 3 yrs old by the time a second came... How do you girls do it while paying a mortgage, car payments, etc...?

Daycare moms
This is a big reason why we want/need to space out our children in terms of age. It's just soooo expensive. I told DH if we needed to pay for 2 at once for a year or so, we could get thru it. But any longer than that would be a real financial hardship. It stinks

Daycare moms
We simply can't afford to put two in daycare. So there will be a much larger gap between them than I'd like.

Re: Daycare moms
it is HARD... I am currently pregnant with #2 and we are anxious about it...
daycare for 2 - $2600 (with 10% discount) Mortgage and taxes - $2300
oh and then every other bill, car payments, groceries, diapers, formula etc etc etc...
we won't be saving much for the next 2 years, until DS begins K.
we WILL make it work.

Re: Daycare moms
I'm in this position now, with DC #2 coming soon.
I know it will be tight, but the way I look at it is, it's only for about 2 1/2 years before DD goes to Kindergarten. So we will just have to cut back and make it work for the time being.

Seems like we're all in the same boat! Just have to think about it as a temporary expense

Re: Daycare moms
Most daycare parents I know space out their children. I sah with my kids, but was looking to put the kids in daycare and it was going to be 2500 a month. Add in work clothes, packing lunches, dinner (take out!) , extra clothes and supplies for daycare. plus I would need a sitter for when my daycare kids are sick
I couldn't imagine working for 4 or more years paying such a large amount of cash ? The day cares give very tiny discount as well

Re: Daycare moms
We just keep telling ourselves that when daycare is over $2300 a month will be in OUR bank account instead of daycare's - it will be like hitting lotto

Daycare moms
thats why we space them out farther.......Its not like we have large salaries, we just cut back on more luxuries for ourselves. I don't get pedicures, we don't go out to restaurants each week.we don't clothing shop much.
Its not just a temporary expense...... once daycare stops, then kindergarden you start paying for morning program and afterschool program, summer camp, and sports/dance/etc...

I am in the same boat. I am actually taking an extended leave when DC #2 is born, but it is going to be a hard couple of years financially.

Re: Daycare moms
I am very lucky and found a baby sitter in my town who is great and less expensive than daycare. I will be paying less than 2k a month for four days for my 2 babies. It is annoying to pay a baby sitter more than we pay the bank for our mortgage but it's only temporary and soon it will be back in our savings account!! I avoided daycare for this reason because I knew I wanted my kids close in age. If I used daycare I would probably work 5 days instead of 4.

To have kids close in age is so expensive! Summer camp for 2 - 3 kids is a lot of $$, plus all the school breaks and sick days. I feel like you will never be able to get ahead.
