Neighborhood watch
Does anyone participate in one in their neighborhood? I want to start one up, but don't know where to begin. What does it entail, is it effective? Who do I call to arrange meetings, and how often do you have them? Any insight would be wonderful! Thanks!

LOL
I think you might be better off posting on HOME. Also, I saw there are some related threads on this.

Re: Neighborhood watch
I don't know much about them but I would start by talking to someone in the police department for your town. I am sure someone there would be able to guide you in the right direction.

I think this is a good start , and then to go around your neighborhood to introduce yourself ,and your ideas ! Good luck

This is a great suggestion but didn't work for my neighborhood. We found it was helpful to contact our civic association and ask them to contact the precinct on our behalf....

Well I think that is how you start a neighborhood watch from what I can see"........was police department resistant to doing it? Can u expand on why you had such a hard time?

Re: Neighborhood watch
Im not sure what town your in...but i live in north lindy...we have had a lot of car break ins lately....( my car included) ...a couple of houses got randomly broken into and the latest thing happened down the street a few guys kicked in a big steel door and robbed a house down the street from me. I spoke to a few people on my block..we used to have a neighborhood watch but it supp intails a lot ....you need to attend i think one monthly meeting and most of the neighborhood needs to attend in order to even try to get a sign posted in your neighborhood.
If you have better luck please fm i am really interested in taking our neighborhood back i am tired of being fearful to take my garbage out when my dh is at work at night and sick and tired of constantly running around my house checking windows and locks ( numerous times a night before going to bed) I thnk ever town should have one . Best of luck to you.

Re: Neighborhood watch
SCPD wasn't very accommodating with my neighborhood association. They did come to talk to us, but the PO did say that they were concerned it would be a police bashing and "why don't you protect us better?" He was pleased that we were interested in moving forward.
I would say our town and specifically the supervisor was the better help. Although, I am just a member and not one of the organizers, so I don't know what they had to do to get started.
