Talk to me about ear infection and tubes

How many ear infections did your dc have before getting tubes? Was their speech delayed? DS is on on his 4th ear infection at 16 months. They clear up and then he'll get a cold and get another one. My ped wants to see what happens after this one. Any advice?

Went through similar with JJ past year. He got his first ear infection on 9/29/10 & would have one what seemed to be every month (as soon as he was done with antibiotic he got another). We took him to an ENT in May bc I wanted to see what was going on plus thought his speech was not what it could be. The ENT determined that his hearing was not affected plus his ears did not look damaged. We were told to wait it out until DS turned 2(Sept 2011) bc usually a lot of infections & no damage is due to the immaturity of the inner ear.

I'm happy to report, since he turned 2 we have had no ear infections & at this point last year we were already on #4.

ds was getting them every month - sometimes 2x a month starting in the fall last year - he got his tubes in feb -hasnt had an ear infection since


if he gets them every month def have him checked out.. speech wasn't delayed - hearing was fine

I think were getting tubes very soon. Im so about it but I think it will be for the best. My daughter in 2.5 and the words we CAN understand other people cant. For Gabriel she says Deeda. For Grandma she said baiba. I had her evaluated through the county and she didnt qualify!!!!!!!!! I was SO upset. the ladies said even though she doesnt qualify, when we move next month we should contact the school district and try through them. She ALWAYS has fluid in her ears or ear infections ALWAYS. Im afraid to have her put under. That upsets me so much. I just cant imagine that. Besides that I think she needs tubes too :( Hoping then at least I will understand her :( Its so upsetting when other kids are with us and they all speak so clearly. Their moms understand them and I have NO idea what shes saying to me.
