someone talk to me about ear tubes...
poor dd has jus started a 4th round of antibiotics for an ear infection. Dr said that if no signs of improvement by Monday the next step is to go to an ENT and possible tubes
I don't want to get ahead of myself but I just have that feeling its needed.
Just need some reassurance that she's going to be ok....and I will sleep again soon too

Re: someone talk to me about ear tubes...
My DD got them last Feb at 21 months old. She had recurring ear infections and was on antibiotics more than she wasn't. The surgery was 20 mins, and we were home within a few hours. She hasn't had an ear infection since (fingers crossed)! I had major anxiety about the anesthesia, worrying about that really was the worst part. It was the best thing we ever did for her. Feel free to FM me if you need to talk!

Re: someone talk to me about ear tubes...
My nephew got them and no issues. Procedure was fast and he went home shortly after. He was incomfortable at the hospital, but an hour after being home and cuddling on the couch with my sister he said he was bored and left for the playroom. I guess it went fine
DS has an ear infection with every cold and he's had about 5 this winter
I have a feeling we'll be back at the Peds tomorrow for more meds

This is really my issue!
Thanks everyone...this just stinks all around. She has been miserable for days and not sleeping...just woke up from her 30 min nap and she is so exhausted and sad...which is so not her.
Not to mention the sleep deprived momma with the stiff neck and painful shoulder from trying to sleep with her is really starting to take its toll on me.

Re: someone talk to me about ear tubes...
DS got them after a winter of continual ear infections. He got another infection the month after that (which was March) and then started the next year off in Sept with a bang and another infection. After that he got none and I assumed the tubes were finally working, but when we went for a recheck they told me the tubes were out of place, so they were doing nothing anyway and he'd just grown out of them. If you want to try it the procedure itself was no big deal.

Re: someone talk to me about ear tubes...
DS got them April of 09 when he was 14 mths old. I was the one that struggled with putting them in while DH kept trying to convince me it was the best thing for DS. I gave in after his 8th round of ear infections. The procedure was only 10 minutes. They had me in there when he was put under and when he woke up. He woke up minutes after the surgery was done. We stayed at the hospital until his first wet diaper. All I can say was an hour after surgery, he was running around the children's ward in his hospital gown, yellow socks and diaper showing in the back He has had no infections (knock on wood) since then.
Because of his anatomy, we had the T-shaped tubes put in - he will have to undergo surgery to have them removed. They are good for 2-3 years.
We have a month old daughter now. I have sworn not to fight tubes if she needs them. I realized after the fact that the constant antibiotics were probably worse than the 10 minute surgery. Good luck - let me know if you have any questions.
