I like them in general. I would pick one that allows you to freestyle.
Also, DH won't go on another one.
The reasons I don't like them are:
small rooms
pay for drinks
salt water pool
crowded pool while at sea
early am announcements (although I hear that can be avoided)
excursions are expensive
The reasons I like them are:
See many islands
The service is excellent
top notch entertainment
always something to do
DH and I like staying in our room sometimes so a nice rooms is important to us.
We have gone the all inclusive route mostly and are very happy with that.

We like cruising but I can see why some would not, especially if you get motion sickness... There are both positives and negatives about it and it isn't for everyone. You can try a short inexpensive cruise and see if you like it.

I've never been on a cruise and I want to try it, but I think we'd probably still enjoy Sandals more.
At Sandals we kind of checked out some the the entertainment, we often changed our dinner plans, and we really wanted to explore the island. I'd rather kind of get out and do things OR have privacy in a nice room. The idea of being stuck on a huge boat doesn't appeal to me. I guess you could say it's no different from staying at and enjoying a resort, but I just feel differently about it. I also feel like I'd feel a lot of stress to get back from ports and excursions on time

I barely see my kids on a cruise-lol. My ds who was 7 at the time liked to eat dinner with his friends so he was gone from about 5pm to midnight or later. He asked us not to come early to pick him up-lol. My dd was 12 so she was in the teen center and with friends almost the entire cruise.
I think i would have heart failure having my 7 year old go off without one of us on a ship.

I am not a fan of cruises. The rooms are cramped. I feel rushed when are on shore. I feel like I am constantly eating food.
I would much prefer to stay on resort and not see so many places in a rush.
It is a good way to see a lot of places at once. It is not my preferred way of travel.

I agree Erica. Laws in internationalnwaters are very open to interpretation and I have heard some horror stories about crimes committed on cruise ships that get swept under the rug. I don't leave my kids with strangers on Long Island and I certainly wouldn't on a strange ship. Yet another reason why cruises aren't for me.

I agree Erica. Laws in internationalnwaters are very open to interpretation and I have heard some horror stories about crimes committed on cruise ships that get swept under the rug. I don't leave my kids with strangers on Long Island and I certainly wouldn't on a strange ship. Yet another reason why cruises aren't for me.

No I was not. Teachers at any school are "strangers" also. While they have had background checks, so have counselors on a cruise.

I went on a cruise as a kid because my dad got it as a work perk. My 12-year-old self liked it enough, but I don't think I would ever go again. It's just not our type of vacation. We like to stay at a small place, and explore the local towns/areas.

I can't say I don't like cruises since I have never been on one but I don't have a strong desire to go on one at all. I do not like the idea/feeling of not being able to leave the ship when I want. It doesn't matter that the ship is very large...I get freaked out when during situations like the blackout where you can't easily leave Manhattan.

Thank you for that info. I never saw that. That is one thing that I have told my kids (even though one of them is too young to do that) that you NEVER go to anyone's room no matter what they say. As an adult, I wouldn't even do that.
You need to be careful anyplace, IMO, with your children and even yourself. That story would not stop me from going on a cruise though and having my kids in the children's section though. They should be able to do their own thing too with kids their own age.

I don't like them... i find it much more relaxing to go to a resort where I am not moving around all the time, getting on and off a boat and where I can be on the beach or a nice big pool.
I did not get sick the one time I went on one, but I also have serious motion sickness issues which seem to get worse as I get older.... so I have no desire at all... good thing DH doesn't like them either!

I don't like cruises.
I am in a VAST minority and people always try to convince me that my reasons are ridiculous but I can't help the way I feel.
My reasons are ~
1. I suffer from TERRIBLE motion sickness and don't care that every says you don't feel the boat move. It would be a very expensive mistake for me to make.
2. The feelings of being trapped that you mentioned. I don't even care for all inclusive resorts for that reason, but with all inclusives at least you can leave if you want. When a boat is at sea, where do you go??
3. I have children and I am not comfortable brining them into international waters where laws are sketchy at best.
I can't agree w you more, I don't think I will cruise unless i am forced to by someone very important lol

Hmm, based on the one Norwegian cruise we took to Bermuda, I wasn't a huge fan. I found the food, accommodations and entertainment to be really mediocre. The pool was overcrowded with a bunch of rowdy kids. A lot of the days of our vacation spent with no beach to swim in and people on top of each other.
I also didn't like the long lines to get on and of the boat. We were fortunate that we stopped in Bermuda and stayed for 3 days, but I would really hate a cruise that gave us like an 8-10 hour window in one spot and the anxiety of getting back to the boat and missing the nightlife in every destination.
I know a lot of people love them, but they're not for me. I'd rather hop on a plane and be there the whole time.

I have an older child and I would never leave him alone on a cruise ship. Now the kids club, that's different. I'm comfy with signing in, dropping off, coming back to pick up. But if I remember reading correctly, the tween/teen clubs they can sign themselves in/out. Not a fan of that at all. I would never say to go off with your new cruise friends and meet back at xxx time. That wouldn't work for my family.
I'm glad you have the faith and trust though, because I never would be comfortable with it.
I've read so many stories about cruise crimes that are swept under the rug. It's scary.

Last cruise was the only one that we let our oldest go to the tween/teen club and around with friends. The other times and with our youngest they were in the kids club.
She was mostly in the teen room though and she knew she was not allowed to go in anyone's rooms which she did not. She also was not allowed to be out from morning to night and my dh would peek in on her from time to time-lol. We met the kids she was hanging out with and we also met her for dinner and shows on many days.
I personally have only heard of stories with adults on cruise ships. Not that I do not believe it could happen. Anything can happen just like on land and that is why I am just as cautious on a cruise as I am on land with my kids. I also have to let my kids "go" a little bit and do their own thing. Older kids want to do things with their friends and not their parents all the time, especially teenagers.
