I'm a mommy now! Pics and birth story.
Due date was 9/22. Went to ob and wasn’t dilated or effaced at all. The next evening DH and I went out to dinner early around six and I had the eggplant parm. We then went to the supermarket to buy junk food?. Came home and as I was about to take shower so we can just veg out and watch dvr’d shows, had bad lower back pain at 8:22pm. They were 4 minutes apart so I called office at 9. Nurse told us to head right in since I’m 45 minutes away. Took shower, put on makeup, heehee, and headed north. We arrived around 10:30. I was2 cm. I begged for epidural but they would not give it to me unless I was def going to be admitted. Gave me staydol. It did nothing for me. Contractions were two minutes apart. Covering attending (my ob was away for the weekend) gave the go ahead to admit me since contractions got to be right on top of another and I was in horrid back labor pain. Got epi at midnight. LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE epidural. One am I was already 6 cm dilated. They broke my water and all proclaimed they’ve never seen that much gush out ever. 3am I was 7 cm. I never progressed. Since baby kept decelling, they could not give me pitocin to accelerate it. C-section was decided at 8am. Baby arrived at 8:16. Nicu was called in to be ready. Baby came out, didn’t cry. Scariest moment of my life. After about 20 minutes, he was stated to be a healthy baby! Never went to Nicu.
During labor and in recovery, I was uncontrollably shaking. That didn’t stop until afternoon time. I met my baby in recovery room. Nurses pushed breastfeeding. I was too tired to say no. I got up from bed rest around 5pm. I made myself take walks around unit or hospital every other hour. C-section pain was not bad at all. I never took any pain meds other than Motrin. I refused to take Percocet script home. I NEVER thought I was going to breastfeed. I told people I would give it a try but I really thought I was just going to formula feed. Well, baby Anthony latches on like a champ. I breastfed in hospital every other hour and had them take him in the nursery and formula feed for overnight so I could get some rest. Advice I can give is bring comfy clothes to the hospital. As soon as they gave me the go ahead, I took shower and changed to my clothes. Made me feel like a person, not a sick patient.
Went home on day three and baby Anthony has been an ANGEL. I have to wake him up every three hours to breastfeed. He only wakes once per night around 3:30- 4am. He basically only cries bloody murder when we undress him. I give him a bottle of breast milk in the morning so I can pump. I don’t know if this is normal but in the mornings I am so engorged I can get anywhere from 8-10 ounces of breast milk per breast to store. I then pump in the evenings when DH feeds him a bottle and I get 3-4 per breast then. Again, I’ve never read any books or thread on this subject so I’m just taking it day by day. My goal is to make it a month. I’ll re evaluate my goal once the month is up.
I did go back to hospital for high fever a few days later but all is well now.
