So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
What is wrong with me? We brought home two paint samples for the baby's nursery. They're both slightly different shades of beige. My DH painted it on the wall of the nursery last night so we could make our choice - and I got all teary eyed and eventually started crying. I feel like it's BORING to paint a baby nursery beige. I'm sure it will look nice once it's all decorated with the bedding and decor, but DH couldn't understand my emotions and neither could I.
I think it's because I feel like this color isn't "special" enough. Especially since it's a close match to the bathroom paint color! This is our baby's nursery... shouldn't it be "special"?
The only problem is that we don't want to do blue paint or another color since we have a lot of room decor that IS blue, so the safe/sensible paint color is beige.
I'm having a hard time explaining why it's so important to me that this room is PERFECT. We just remodeled our bathrooms and basement - and I didn't cry over THAT paint color! I can't be the only one who holds how our baby's nursery looks with such high importance. I don't think it's a "vanity" thing... more like a motherly/nesting thing, right?
I think I'm also having girl/pink envy/nostalgia since I've always had the perfect vision of what a girl's nursery would look like, and feel like I've been thrown a curveball with decorating for a boy now. So, add guilt to the pile of emotions!
After not being able to sleep because of it, I've been looking all over the internet for alternative paint options and - seriously - beige is our best choice. Why am I so upset over this? (I know... hormones, but still! I feel so stupid!)
ETA: see updated pics a few posts down...

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
Totally hormones. I would have loved to have painted the walls a different color, but used Tan since we have a 5 gallon bucket of it! But it does look good in the room and I haven't even gotten all of the decorations up yet.
For me, to make the room a bit more special I added custom vinyl stickers to give it a punch! Go take a look at Etsy and see if you can fnd that special something to go over the beige paint. I think when it's all said and done, you will LOVE the look of the nursery when it all comes together.

I painted stripes on my sons room (two colors of blue but you could do whatever colors you want) -- I love the way it looks. Maybe that would be something you would like?

I am kind of in the same boat - my husband wants to do it just blue but I feel like it's not enough. Can you post pics of the walls you did for your son?? Thanks so much!!

I'm sure it's just hormones and I actually love blue and beige together, but could you go with a light yellow or green instead?

I like that idea. You could do stripes using the 2 beige colors.
Then you don't have to pick between the 2!

This is totally something I would do even before I was pregnant. Honestly, I think that once you put up all the decorations that the beige wall will make them pop best!! And you will love the final product.
NO matetr what though if you still dont feel 100 percent about it ,and iif you have your heart set on something else, two shades of beige sounds like a great idea!!

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
Thanks, everyone. I still don't know what I'm definitely doing. DH called this morning and apologized to me, saying his coworker's wife told him she hated their nursery color after he painted the whole room, so I guess he feels better that I told him after just seeing a wall sample. lol.
He said we'll go later and look at light blues.
In the meantime, I found this picture that I think I really like, that just shows a blue chair rail. I could live with beige if we do the chair rail and border. Unfortunately, it's more work for DH, who has been working his BUTT off on our house, so it's easy for me to say. At least we can paint the room tomorrow, have the furniture delivered and then worry about the accents.
What do you think of this look? I also attached our bedding, which is Vintage Mickey Sports.

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
Totally normal - tell you DH that we painted my DD's whole nursery 1 color pink and then did it all over again a different pink because I hated the first!!
Also, I totally think you could do blue with that bedding. A dark blue on bottom with a beige on top, or just a coordinating blue. I think either would look great!

I like that idea, the 2 coordinating colors. i see that a lot through DH's job and if I had a room to paint for my kid right now I'd do it. that other sports set you posted is the one we picked.

You could totally do blue or yellow with that bedding. I agree beige is boring, but your asking someone who painted the nursery orange so obviously I love color

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
I love the blue chair rail. It's not funny at all. We painted DS room Green. It's a very very similar green to what is in my bathrooms. At first I thought I made a mistake...I wanted it to be Special as well. You know what, once all the little pieces have started to fill it in...it is special. I too knew exactly how I was going to decorate a girls room...no idea on a boys. It will be adorable and special, especially when that little boy of yours is there in it! Lots of hugs sweets!

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
If you're going to do a chair-rail I suggest doing beige on one 1/2 and a red on the other, or doing 3 beige walls and a red accent wall. That would make it look cool and show the thought that went into it! Not a typical nursery look AT ALL!

Re: So silly - Crying over nursery paint color...
We are team so it has been a little difficult setting up for the LO. We just painted the room a beige color. Its called Manchester Tan. Its by Benjamin Moore- the Historical Collection. Its so nice!! I figured with all of the bedding, wall decals, toys, etc., it would be nice to have a beige wall. I was so nervous at first, but it looks so nice against our white moldings and closets. Check it out

I really wanted tan walls, but DH wants blue. We just ordered a sample of this color.
It's Martha Stewart's Toile Blue. See if you like it for you set. Image Attachment(s):
