Pic of my den...question

Would you tear down the brick and paint?

Would you paint the mantle white?

Re: Pic of my den...question

NO WAY!! the brick gives the room such a cozy feeling and a little character.

is that a wood mantel? cant tell from the pic, if it is I would just stain it a little darker.

Re: Pic of my den...question

i honestly love the brick but i like brick. For me I would paint the mantel that is what i would like or make it darker. Another you can do if your not in love with all that brick is to add some shelving units to the side, nothing huge just maybe some small ones.

ITA. But I love the exposed brick look. That's really what I would love to have in my kitchen one day. Chat Icon

Re: Pic of my den...question

I would keep the brick and either paint or stain the mantle. Right now the color of the mantle is not really doing much for the overall look. I would also, if possible, cover the exposed brick that's within the mantle with some other material. Maybe a natural stone. But I think that by simply changing the mantle color, the room will pop.

Pretty!

I would leave the brick and either paint or stain the mantle. For the brick between the mantle and the fireplace, I would remove and replace with tile or stone.

I love the brick wall.

But I feel like the mantle is to big for that fireplace. Seeing so much brink in between them is throwing me off.

I would paint the brick white and stain the mantle. (and I agree with a PP that the mantle seems like it's too big for the fireplace)

I love the look of exposed brick but it depends on the brick color.

I'd leave the brick. I hate painted brick with a passion so I would never paint it. I would paint the mantel white to give it a more modern look. I definitely agree with the suggestion to cover the exposed brick within the mantel with a granite or some natural type of stone.

I like the brick wall, I agree with a few of the girls to stain it darker. I would even tone down the other white walls with a light tan to flow with the brick.

Love the brick and the matel. I would change the scree. Since it is a den make it something a little less formal and a little more interesting.

Please dont paint the brick. I would stain the mantel dark, to match the wood furniture. Maybe get a new screen for the fireplace. But just dont paint the brick. My mil did this, and it completely changed the feel of the brick.

Definitely agree with others.. leave the brick. and please please don't paint it, once brick is painted it looks so fake and you can't undo it.

I would stain the mantle a darker color, or paint it, and replace the bricks between the mantle and the fireplace covering with a slate or other natural grey stone. It will really pop off the brick then
