BF moms- wearing a bra to bed?

I've always HATED (with a passion) wearing bras to bed so I have always avoided it whenever possible. In the first couple months after giving birth (I EBF), I always wore a bra with nursing pads to bed, otherwise I would wake up soaked in milk. I do still occasionally wear one but don't find it to be as necessary now at 8 months PP. I was just thinking though about how moms who don't BF or who are going to stop BFing are told to wear a tight sports bra to help deal with engorgement. Is this just to make it less painful, or does it actually help dry up milk supply? So then my question is- do you think wearing a bra to sleep vs. not wearing one could hurt your supply if you are still BFing? Just curious is anyone knows or has thoughts on this!

I think the tight sports bra is supposed to help dry up your milk. My milk came in late and I never got engorged, so the leaking was never an issue for me. I had a nursing sleep bra that I wore the first week until I got some Target nursing tanks, and I've worn those to bed ever since.

I wouldn't chance it if you're still BFing, I think it would hurt your supply.

I think the compression of the sports bra hinders your body from producing as much milk. I'm not sure that a regular bra would accomplish the same thing. My concern would be more with the possibility of getting a clogged duct? I'm thinking that might be why they started with the sleeping bras. Not sure though.

I wear a loose sleep bra or cami to bed to hold the pads, definitely not the same effect.

I think the tight bra is for thee pain and many sources say not to do that anymore, it just results in clogged ducts

I would not wear a tight bra to bed. A sleep bra is fine, none is fine.

I also EBF. The first three months or so I wore a nursing sleep bra to bed to contain the girls and keep pads in to prevent leaks. After that I don't wear a bra to bed at all. It is just so uncomfortable, especially when they are contained all day Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon .

A tight bra will inhibit your supply. Your standard BFing sleep bra is loose, I used to wear the Medela Sleep Bra to bed.

I do and I HATE it. Though I don't even leak at night (or very, very minimally) so I probably don't need it....but I do still wear one (without underwire).

Never bothered with bras to bed when I was EBFing. When we weaned at 14 months I still didn't bother with a bra at night.

Re: BF moms- wearing a bra to bed?

I still wear a nursing tank or light bra to bed everynight @ 5 months. It's actually so much more comfortable than to have the empty sandbags hanging all over the place, lol!

However, I got this girdle type tank to wear with an old dress I had. I wore it all day Sunday and my milk supply was significantly less than normal on Monday- so yes I do believe a tight fitting top will mess with your supply. I also hadn't eaten or drank enough that day so that probably also messed it up. It's back now thank goodness!

I always wear a bra to bed now that I am EBF. I just feel like they are down to my knees if I don't. Chat Icon I wear a sleep bra sometimes. Most of the time I wear one of my Bravado silk seamless. They are comfy enough to wear at night.

I wear a tight sports bra to bed.

No problem with ducts. I actually get a ton of milk at night... and early in the morning.
