My Kasey did not make me choose.
She died this morning in bed laying next to me.
Last night my husband and i made her paw prints, then took her for a ride in the car. When we got home we took her for a walk around the block, and she was moving so slow. When we went home we gave her a bath, and she had a bite of roast beef.
We took her and wrapped her in a blanket and put her in bed with us to snuggle. We all slept together, and when we woke up in the morning my husband and I cried together and talked to her.
She watched me take care of my son, and I had him pet her for the first time.
Then my DH and I laid with her, and I told her it was okay to go, that we would be okay. That I wanted her to go to sleep, and chase the squirrels and that I will love her for always.
My husband left the room, I hugged her and as soon as I got off of her she took her last breath.
The one thing I regret was when she took her last breath I got so scared I ran out of the room for help, and I feel like I left her when she was frightened. I will never forgive myself for doing that.
I had prayed all night that she would go while with her dad and me. I am devastated she is gone. I just hope she knows how much she meant to me.
Thank you all for your kind words and support. It really means so much to me.

OMG. I am so so sorry. I am so glad she was with you and it is very clear you loved your dog so much. I think you did everything you could to be with her until the end, please do not beat yourself up over anything. I am so so sorry for your loss. You were there for her and she knew it.

Don't do that. You gave her exactly what she would have asked for, if she was able to ask for it. She passed peacefully, with love, and that is all she would have wanted.
I just hope she knows how much she meant to me.
She knows. They all do. I'm very sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in the wonderful memories you have of her in the coming days.

This brought tears to my eyes... please remember you were an amazing mother to her and she lived a good life... you were both very lucky to have each other.

I'm soooo sorry!!!! Do not beat yourself up for anything!!! I feel so bad to hear you say that. You did whatever you could do for her and most importantly gave her all the love she could ever need.

Thank you everyone. I know I should not feel guilty, I just wish I had been more calm for her. I just did not know what to do except to run for help. I wanted to be there for her, and I lost it.

I cried reading your post, but they were also happy tears because it sounds like it was a very loving, peaceful way to go.
I also think she waited to take her last breath until you and your husband got up on purpose - she had said her goodbye and was ready to go when she felt you two were as ready as you could be and said goodbye.
You shouldn't regret a single thing you did. She definitely knows how much she is loved.

Cried reading this. Do not feel like you "left her". You helped her pass with love! I truly believe that they understand everything and she was waiting for the right time. You helped her do it and now she is at peace. This must be so hard for you. There is nothing like losing a pet. They are a loved member of the family. My heart goes out to you and your family!

Your post just made my heart double in size. What a great puppy mommy you are. Your Kasey was so very lucky to have you (and of course you were also lucky to have Kasey). I am so sorry for your loss, but from the love you showed Kasey during her last hours, I am sure she had the best life any dog could ever ask for.

WOW.. I am so happy that she was able to pass with you and your DH.
I am crying because you are so honest with what you said in all your post. It sounds like Kasey had VERY loving parents, and you did the best thing for her and told her it was ok.
My DH just came in to me bawling for you and he thought something was wrong with me! I explained and he said that what you did was amazing and he too is sorry.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm in tears reading this. You truly were great parents to her. You can never prepare yourself for something like that, so you didn't know what to do at the time, so please don't regret anything that you did. You did everything right. You were by her side. Always keep her in your memories.
