Curious about PCOS
If you have PCOS, is this something you knew about before you started BCP? Or did you have regular periods before BCP? I was always regular before BCP, now that I am off, I continue to be regular, but feel I have some symptoms that when I google show up as PCOS (pain in ovary before period and acne). I have gained weight in the past 2 years, more than I am comfortable with. I know I caused it due to less activity and poor diet not PCOS, but not sure if the weight gain could cause PCOS to develop.

Re: Curious about PCOS
I wouldn't jump to conclusions. If you are having regular periods then that is a good sign. Weight gain can be a cause of so many things. Have you had your thyroid checked? Hypothyroidism is very common and cause weight gain. Pain in your ovary could just be ovulation. Go to your obgyn and ask some questions. Good luck!

Re: Curious about PCOS
Thank you, I know I am jumping to conclusions. The internet can be dangerous LOL!! We aren't even TTCing yet, but I still get worried. I know I gained the weight on my own anyway.

Re: Curious about PCOS
I didn't know I had it until I was TTC. Before I went on BCP my periods were very irregular. I was put on BCP to regulate my cycles. There is much more to PCOS than acne and weight gain.

Re: Curious about PCOS
i didnt know i had PCOS until i went off BCP. I had normal AF as a teenager - it wasnt until i came off BCP as an adult that she became non-existant.
i am normal weight but i do lose/gain weight a little faster than other people. many of the PCOS weight issues are due to insulin resistance, which is one symptom i don't have. acne is one of my symptoms - and its one i had when i was a teen as well, although at that time i didnt know it was due to PCOS. even though i got AF regularly as a teen, i do wonder if i ever actually ovulated back then. i dont ovulate regularly now.
like the pp says i wouldnt jump to conclusions on having PCOS unless you have reason too (ie. irregular cycles). if you suspect you do for any reason, and havent started TTC yet or aren't in a rush, i would chart basal body temp for a few cycles to confirm if you are Oing. if you are then theres PROB not that much to worry about. however if you cant confirm Oing and your cycles are wacky, you will prob want to see a doctor.

Re: Curious about PCOS
I knew I had problems 10 years ago before going on the pill. I had TERRIBLE period problems and my bloodwork reflected hormone irregularities.
Now that I'm off, my periods still are not regular and I still have those hormone issues... such as elevated LH.
As far as weight gain and acne, that could be attributed to other things. The only way to get a clear answer is to see your dr. If this is something you're concerned about, make an appt!

Re: Curious about PCOS
I always had issue but no one ever told me about PCOS. I was put on the pill and just told "It will correct your irregular periods" Well I went off awhile back and we were TTC and no luck but I also missed my period for 3 months....my GYN was like "Here some clomid"...No monitoring, nothing. I did this three times and I got worried nothing was working I went straight to a RE after that and turns out I had PCOS and some other underlying issues. I was told if I did not correct the underlying issues..... I could have gotten pregnant but was at a high risk of miscarriage.....After seeing the RE was was so happy the "figured me out"
I think if your insurance covers it go see a RE and get an opinion...cant hurt ya know
Good luck!!

Re: Curious about PCOS
I just want to add that I get cramping in ovary area before AF arrives and dr. told me that's normal. Someone on this board answered that question for me too (I was concerned and posted about it too). Your corpus luteum, the empty follicle after egg was released, can form a cyst (completely fine) during 2WW. I also breakout on my chest during ovulation time every single month. But my blood work is not at all indicative of PCOS. And dr. has confirmed that I am O'ing. So like other posters said, don't jump to conclusions. Those 2 things can be completely normal.
