How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

I normally tell people who ask me how much weight I've gained that I don't know because I do not ask the nurse & I usually don't care if they believe me or not. But yesterday, I was feeling especially well & in a great mood & when MIL asked me in front of 12 people btw, I actually answered. Today I am ****** at myself & ****** that she seriously asked me this in front of all of her guests at thanksgiving.

What can I reply next time without being rude? What do you guys do?

I usually say that I don't pay attention either, since I got tired of the looks I was getting. I only gained 14 total at my 28 week appt....and everyone kept saying I wasn't eating enough. But, according to my doc I'm doing fine....

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

ugh that is so annoying. this happened to me yesterday as well on Thanksgiving from someone i don't know that well but I was kind of expecting it as soon as the how-much-weight-they gained in all of their pregnancies conversation started. I just said "more than 20 lbs" but I was annoyed that I felt obligated to answer. My mom asks me this constantly and I just tell her an average amount and what does it really matter and then she'll try to get it out of me the next day anyway. I find it really insulting, especially when you've made it clear you don't want to answer and you keep getting pressed about it. I was also asked this at work in front of all my coworkers!Chat Icon And, of course, I answered because I am so polite. But we should probably just say "a healthy amount" and that pretty much says it all. arg.

ugh i hate this. MIL yesterday said to me, youre so small; are you eating? she always says this because im not really showing that much yet and im 21 weeks. i mean i have a belly but not that huge yet. i have been sick since day one and i think this has to do with it and not having an appetite but i know baby is healthy; the told me so im not worried; why is she? ugh! sorry ranting

Next time, I would joke and say, "Geez, do you want to know my underwear size, too?"
Or, "Oh great, are we taking a survey? How much do YOU weigh?" Haha, but I'm a sarcastic beyotch, so that might not work for you.
Maybe try, "Hmm, I actually don't know!" and play dumb. That usually works. Or lie and just say, "Actually, I've managed to lose weight! Pregnancy does wonders for me!"

I love these answers! But I am also really sarcastic...I think I am gonna use the "Geez, do you want to know my underwear size too?"

People are so weird! Where do they get off asking about weight? I answered someone once and they said "Oh, what did you weigh originally?" I just started laughing and ignored the question...

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

I usually answer but, only b/c the people who have asked me have been other preggos lookin for their own comparison KWIM. I think it is an EXTREMELY inappropriate question for someone to ask for no reason at all. I would probably answer just b/c I know I have gained a completely normal amount of weight and wouldn't want to imply otherwise but, would probably respond something to the effect of "Why? How much do you weigh?" to show them how rude it was to ask in the first place!

Chat Icon Chat Icon MIL likes to asks me too. At least she hasn't done it in front over anyone besides DH. I just respond with the amount I gained so far. I am only 11 weeks 4 days so I don't mind sharing for now.

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

No one ever asks me this. Probably bc I am already overweight, but I really wish they would so I can say ZERO so far! Chat Icon But I can see how it can get REALLY annoying so I guess I am pretty lucky.

Can you say something snappy like 10 lbs...how much have you gained? Chat Icon

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

I don't know why people think this question is appropriate. It is so rude.

My response during this pregnancy will be the same one I gave throughout my first one to the annoying twits who ask: "My doctor and I are very happy because my weight is in the healthy range for a woman at___weeks of pregnancy" (insert whatever week I am in at that point).

What I really wanted to say was "Hey at least pregnancy gives me an excuse to gain some weight" (while looking the person up and down)Chat Icon

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

I usually just told them, because I didn't care and knew I would lose the weight after the baby. Sure I got ridiculous comments, but I shut them up when I fit into my pre-preggo clothes quite quickly!

Some people are just stupid, and usually the ones who ask these questions will never be satisfied with what you tell them, so don't sweat it hun!

Re: How do you respond to the question about how much weight you've gained?

I ask them how much weight they have gained!!!! I hate when people ask me that...If i wasn't pregnant they wouldn't ask and I sure wouldn't ask them.

I usually will respond with "a good amount...I am enjoying my pregnancy thank you"

Same here and I gained 60lbs with my first two pregnancies. Chat Icon

I just recently asked an acquaintance (a waitress whom we see regularly...we're friendly enough that we gave her a gift for the baby) how much she had gained because I thought she looked fabulous.
