Juicy Juice Apple Juice w/ DHA
I bought this at Target yesterday thinking what a great way to get extra DHA in my diet. Well I go to drink it today & look at the ingredients. The DHA is from Tuna. I know I should have looked in the store but I was sweating like a beast b/c it was so hot in there. It just baffles me b/c ppl are prob buying this & giving it to their kids. I wonder how much mercury is in it? I ended up throwing it out.

They get their DHA from Tuna. Does that make sense?

that's where DHA usually comes from--same as in many prenatals.

I was just going to write this. My prenatals have a DHA supplement that is made from fish oil - specifically tuna. I asked my OB about this today. Apparently, the way the fish oil is processed in pills or liquid for example is different than just eating a regular piece of fish. So the high mercury levels are not an issue, and are in fact undetectable in this form (according to certain studies). If you google DHA (pills) and mercury levels you can find info on this as well.
I wouldn't get rid of the juice. Almost all DHA is from one of the higher mercury fish out there - like tuna, mackerel, etc. The other way to get it is from flax seed oil, but many people feel it does not have the same benefits.

Re: Juicy Juice Apple Juice w/ DHA
usually ingredients are listed in order so the first ingredient is what the product is mostly made of, items at the end generally are in very smalll amounts. I think it would be ok to have since its probably a very small amount and like others said fish is a common source for DHA

Re: Juicy Juice Apple Juice w/ DHA
My perinatologist specifically had me switch to a plant based prenatal because there could be trace amounts of mercury in fish based prenatals.

I guess every doctor is different. I see a high-risk OB and he had no issue with my DHA pills. In fact, he prescribed them as part of the prenatal package. Depends on who you see I guess.

Re: Juicy Juice Apple Juice w/ DHA
Did you taste it? I bought it too. In fact, I bought 4 of them b/c they were on sale at stop and shop 2 for $5.
IT TASTES DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean, I know I'm a little taste sensitive b/c I'm pregs but it tasted like some chemical or something was in it... or a vitamin- lol.
I threw them out and believe me I hated throwing out $10 in juice, lol.
SO disappointing b/c it took me weeks to actually find it in a store.

Re: Juicy Juice Apple Juice w/ DHA
I know most DHA is made from fish oil. However my prenatal DHA is made from a variety of different fish that are considered to be very low mercury. They do not include mackeral, or tuna. I made sure to find one I felt comfortable taking. My concern was that the DHA in the juice is from tuna, even if it is highly refined. I just don't trust it in a juice company. KWIM? I would feel more comfortable if it was made from a plant source. As for the taste no I didn't taste it. I made DH and he said it was gross, so in the garbage it went.
