Any smokers out there?

Just curious if any TTC'ers are having a hard time kicking the habit? It's hard....what if a smoker does not know she's pregnant until 4 weeksa and has been smoking?

I am a smoker and am trying to quit, but it is definitely not easy!!! I know the minute I get a BFP I will throw them out and that will be that, but right now it is really hard...

It was very hard to quit, even after I got a BFP with DD, but I did it after I was four weeks and got a BFP. I substituted food for cigs and gained 60 lbs with that pregnancy.

I have been smoke free since July 9th. I smoked for about 10 years and tried to quite several times. I honestly don't know how I did it this time.....I just did. I got it in my head that I wanted to do it, set a date and that was that. The hardest part was when I was home with DH bc he smoked too. But as quick as I got the urge, it was gone in less than a minute. All I can really say is it DOES get easier with time. I'd say once you get through a week, you will find it a lot easier to resist the temptation.

I was SO excited to be able to start running and biking and even just taking the stairs every day out of Penn Station without getting winded. It's a great sense of accomplishment. Just think, every time you resisit, you are achieving a MAJOR goal.

The great thing now is that DH has quit too!!!!!! He was a VERY heavy smoker and he kept saying he wanted to but he had to be ready. Well it didn't exactly work out that way. He ended up with Pneumonia last month and pretty much had no choice but to not smoke for almost 2 weeks. I think after that he kind of realized that it would be very silly to not take advantage of such a great head start. He hasn't smoked since, although he does smoke cigars to try and help with the "itch". I'm not complaining though bc I know it's a lot harder for him than it was for me.

We both still have some tough moments where we think "Well, maybe just one would be ok" but then we realize how much we will have lost and I really LOVE telling people that I have been "smoke free for X amount of months, weeks, days etc"

You can definitely do it! You just have to REALLY want to. Pick a date on the calendar, don't limit yourself until then and then JUST DO IT

I don't smoke. I quit years ago. This thread made me think of a friend of mine who has been smoking while she is preggers.. she tells me she has cut down, but she still smokes!! She's due in December!!!!

Dh & I used Chantix & quit smoking in January. Good luck quitting

i called the new york quitline (311) and got free patches...ive been a smoker for almost 15 years and it wasnt that bad..the hardest part is that my DH is a smoker too and he refuses to quit...for anyone who is trying to quit, try the FREE patches...the only bad part is that they only give you enough for like a month i believe...but its a great way to start!

Honestly the last time i got pregnant i didn't quit until i actually got a BFP! We weren't "TRYING" I think it worked that way for all my pregnacies, I quit when i found out, and wound up smoking agin eventually down the line usually took about 6-7 months after i had the baby or (mc in 2 of the cases) before i started again, So BAd... but it'll happen all in good time! Dont worry, you'll be fine!! GOod Luck!
