Dyson vacuum question
I am looking to get one soon and see they have a newer, smaller upright vacuum out. I am wondering if you own a Dyson and if you do, which one you have and the pros and cons to it. I see that you have to purchase all the attachments seperately, so I want to choose the best one for what I need.
I have a dog who barely sheds and have the dirt and dust from everyday traffic. These are the two I'm considering:
This one because it's smaller and looks lighter, but is just as powerful: Dyson Animal The Ball™ DC25 Upright Vacuum
OR the Animal, which for some reason looks really big and heavy!
Dyson Animal DC17 Upright Vacuum
TIA!

Re: Dyson vacuum question
So wood floors though out... The DC25 is all you need and you don't really need to Animal model... Another one to look at is the DC24 which is smaller.

Re: Dyson vacuum question
We have the DC17 (animal) due to carpet across the house, but we have tiles in the kitchen/hallway/bathrooms & wood floors in the bedrooms and DR where there is a lot of dirt and hair. The dyson picks it all up without any issues and the carpet still looks new 3 years later.
There is a setting on it for carpet and hard floors.

Do these models still have that Dyson-amazing power? Will it work really well on my area rugs too? THANKS!

Correct... The DC24 power isn't as strong but perfect for area rugs and hard surfaces...

Re: Dyson vacuum question
I have a Dyson (the yellow one). Love it. I do wish now I could get the newer one that angles in and around furniture. We have hardwood floors and area rugs all over--vacumn is amazing.

Re: Dyson vacuum question
I just bought one last week and I'm now returning it. It was completely taking up my area rug. I have a 9x5 area rug and barely did half of it before the canister was full of carpet fibers. When I got down and looked at the carpet, it was all frayed and little pieces of fibers were sticking up all over the place. I had read reviews where people complained about this, so I went in another room that has regular plush carpet wall to wall, and the same thing happened in there, but not to the same extent as the area rug. This was the DC17 cause I have a Lab and a cat. I looked in the manual and it said the this may happen to your rug and if it does, you should vacuumo on the bare floor setting. I did this on the other half of the rug and it was hardly picking up and of the embedded dog hair.
I went and got the Kenmore Progressive yesterday. While on it's highest setting it was also sucking up area rug, it has multiple power setting and you can raise the brush to different heights, and when I changed the settings, it really did a better job on sucking up the hair without taking all of my carpet with it. Plus, it was cheaper, including a 2 year service plan that includes cleaning and unclogging the machine for yearly maintenance.
Just some thoughts cause I've spent the last month trying to decide on a vacuum.

No DC17 for area rugs... It's not designed for it...

Re: Dyson vacuum question
i have the dc07 all floors one (i think its discontinued now since the ball came out) we got it for my shower but haven't used it yet - we are waiting until we move into our house.....
i'm wondering how it is on wood floors.....we have a wood laminate now and i can't vacuum the floor with the vacuum we have now (we have a dirt devil) - it just spreads the dust/dirt/pet hair instead of sucking it up - so i sweep then vacuum the pile with one of the hose attachments and go along all the baseboard under the couches with the hose attachment - then i swifter to get anything i missed and then wash the floors - its pretty annoying....
i am hoping the dyson is good with wood floors b/c that is what we plan on putting down in our new house....

So... after spending $400 for a vacuum, you have to buy ANOTHER one for area rugs?
I'd much rather spend half the money, get one that has tested as having better suction, and can vacuum ALL my rugs.....

I have the DC17 and haven't had any problems w/ it, I use it on my area rugs and the bare floors and it picks everything up but it doesn't pull at the carpet...my cat does that
I think it depends on the thickness of the area rug though, I have a thinner one in the bathroom that I've tried to vacuum and it does make this weird noise, so I just use the attachments, which are included.

Depents on the type of area rug..

I read "No DC17 for area rugs... It's not designed for it..." as meaning that if you own a DC17, you can't use it on area rugs.... and I read that to imply that to vacuum area rugs, you would need a different vacuum designed for area rugs.

Re: Dyson vacuum question
we have the animal ball- DC25. it's awesome! we have wood floors, area rugs and carpeted BR's and it works great on all of them. it's very powerful at getting stuff in the corners and under cabinets and such.
