Does the cost of daycare scare the crap out of anyone ???

When I think of the financial impact of having a baby I get sooo nervous.

I know we'll manage, figure it out. But it scares me.

It did scare me when we were pregnant with DS but it's true that it works itself out.

I remember what daycare cost almost 8 yers ago, I am scared to think how much it is these days! But, you gotta do, what you gotta do!

It's more annoying than anything else. To think about all the money you will be putting towards it.

No, I am with you. We are going to be raising our children in Boca, while our families are in NY. It is going to be tough!

I honestly haven't even thought about that yet.

We're still trying to figure out how we can afford to MAKE a baby.

I was able to stay home with DD for about 6 months before I had to go back. The cost of day care was more ten my f/t salary, so it didn't make sense for me to work.

Fortunately my job provides a Dependent Scholarship for kids and spouses which starts at age 2. That will help a lot....hopefully we'll be able to get to that point though.

right now we're hoping to have family watch the baby while we're working. if not, DH's schedule is pretty flexible so we would only need day care 2 days a week. however, if these plans fall through then YES, the cost of weekly day care terrifies me!

YES! I started looking into the cost of daycare last year when I started thinking about TTC. I figure we can manage with family/working from home about 3 days a week, so we'll probably only need 2 days of daycare. I'm hoping to find someone to split a nanny with me since both my DH and I work in the city and it's hard to find daycare with extended hours.

A friend of mine who has her DS in daycare pays $400 a week! She had looked into a place in midtown near her job and the price there was a little more than that (like $420 or so).



Here at the building where I work there is a daycare which costs less than $250 a week I believe. Two of our employees use them since it's convenient to drive in to work and be in the same building, but now that we work in Jersey, I'm not sure I'd want to drive in everyday with an infant, when the time comes.

Day care costs scare the hell out of DH and I. It's like $300 a week here. DH and I are considering me being a stay at home mom for a couple years.
The only reason I am considering it is because i would basically be working to only pay for the day care costs and it would be time away from my child, i really don't want my child being raised in day care. I figure a little mom-child time for a couple years is a good thing.

It's astronomical! You have to make really great money to even justify it b/c if you don't once you get finished paying for it you really aren't taking home much.
