I agree, you should be proud of yourself that you left and that you want better for yourself and your daughter.
Never feel guilty about lying about that. I went through the same thing. You are trying to protect your own dignity more than anything else.... but you got out! ThHAT is the most important thing!!!!
As someone who unfortunatley can relate to you on all levels of abuse, I commend you for coming forward and telling your family. You recovery from the abuse can only be that much easier with a support system.
