Re: Is anyone's parents terrible gift givers?

Mostly I like what I get...
But i notice a recurring theme with almost EVERYONE who buys for me.
Dish towels. Every year. From everyone.
I have more dish towels than I can use in a lifetime.
I have no more room for them. The drawer is overflowing!
I mean how many dishtowels can a person possibly use?? ENOUGH!!!
I wish there was a charity I could donate them to...Chat Icon

O.K this is a good one. My poor husband has a touchy reltionship with his crazy mother at best. we rarely see her she she ****** away her 2+ million dollars on chatchky's yet refused to help him pay for his college eduction. So that he could focus on saving to buy a home for his family. Anyway this year he opens up his gift to find inside an ornament.O.k so thats not so bad except for 2 things.
1) Where the date goes it says 2003
2) The phrase on the bottom says"Blessing's on your new home"
Which might be fine if we had a home and did'nt rent.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I mean what is this crazy broad thinkingChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My poor husband just cant catch a break with his family.
Then his sister informs us that "Mom had an extra ornament from her old house and she thought you might like it"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
If i did not know these people i would never belive this stuffChat Icon Chat Icon

My parents were awesome growing up. I always got what I wanted. I now just get a check and we buy what we want.

ditto

makes life so much easier- there is no way my Dad would know what to buy me now

he lives in FL anyway- so a check is best

My family makes fun of me because growing up I would always complain, but my mom buys the worst stuff. Clothes that i would never wear, jewelry thats not my style and useful stuff.

When i was younger it was so disappointing to never get what i asked for.

With you on this. My mom has no concept of style and isn't much of a shopper. So now she just gives us $, which is fine, but i sometimes feel she could put a bit of effort in. It has always been that way, except when we were kids and toys and such could just be ordered from catalogs.

My aunt (mom's sis) is like this too. Every single year she gets things for all of us that we would never wear, and we joke. Every thing she gives us goes to good will or we give away. She is REALLy clueless about fashion. It is so bad. I try not to take it personally but it does annoy me b/c I go out of my way to make gifts personal and think long and hard a bout someone might want. And I just try to accept that some people are just clueless. My aunt just buys stuff on such whims that she doesn't even seem to factor in who we REALLY are.

So sadly her gifts go unused b/c no one wants to hurt her feelings and even tough my mom has hinted to her to give us $, she never does...
