Speaking of being from LI
Today a young girl at a till shyly said to me..."oooh, sorry, but where are you from, I notice you have a foreign accent" Which makes me laugh..me foreign. So I said, New York, just outside of New York City. And she said to me...Your accent is sooo beautiful.
LI accent, beautiful? You be the judge.
So move to the UK, you too can have a beautiful accent!!!

Re: Speaking of being from LI
how long have you been there for?
cuz i have a question. or maybe just a weird comment.
this customer of mine. she is from america. BUT she lived in London for 5 years. (shes been back for years though)
sometimes she has an american accent and other times (like yesterday) it was full blown british.
i think you can definatly adopt an accent after living in a place for years, but this girl is weird... i htink she may sort of fake it.
has your family noticed any change in your speech?

racheeeee may not hear it, but she does have a bit of a "lilt" in her speaking patterns... she def. picked up the accent after living there for all those years!

Re: Speaking of being from LI
I've been here for almost 8 years and I suppose (like my sister said) I do have a bit of a lilt and funny speaking patterns. But my accent is true Long Island at heart!!! I still say Cawfee and Dawg.
