Tat Spinoff (sort of)...Getting a Tattoo...
...while travelling. Has anyone ever gotten one while in a different state or country?
I was thinking of getting one during my upcoming trip...

i wouldn't get one in another country because they might not have the standards of sanitizing as we do.. but another state? why not?

ETA: Plan it though. YOu don't want it to interfere with your travel plans. Comfort, healing. Can't go swimming or in the sun until it heals, etc.
You will need mild soap to wash it, and lotion like lubriderm, and antibacterial cream.

i was going to get one in las vegas, but i didnt want to have to worry about it. (taking care of it, keeping it out of sun) while i was on vaca.

I got my first in Pennsylvania while I was away at college (of course ). It's good, but not nearly as good as the second one I got here on LI.
I would get one out of state again MAYBE, but DEFINITELY NOT out of the country. Tat standards are totally different from country to country. Too risky.

That was DHs concern - the standards...but if they're opening a needle from a new package right in front of me...and if they sterilize their 'gun', what would be the health concern?
We're going to Germany & France...hardly 3rd world countries. I'll have to look into it first. I actually totally forgot about the care...that would be bothersome - especially on the plane ride home.

I would want to know a lot about the artist before getting a tattoo. So I would not just stop in to a place on vacation unless I knew ahead of time who I was going to.

Yeah, Germany and France should be fine, esp. if they open a sterile needle in front of you. It would just the care that would be a bother. Depends where you get it, it may be okay on the plane home. Like your ankle I think would be fine, but back, might be annoying.

well i havent yet but we're going to get our honeymoon tattos during the lasy days of our honeymoon in the Polynesian islands
a few girls from LIW/LIF have done so i have their review to go by plus ill also research it.
but we're not worried at all

I'd love to get one in London. There is an amazing artist in a shop near the Camden Markets. Also I hear there is a great artist in Prague.

I didn't...... but when DH and I were on our Honeymoon in Bora Bora...everyone was getting them.....The husbands and wifes were all getting matching ones.... mostly little sea turtles.....they looked really pretty

I got one in the UK, I really hate when people think that other countries standards might not be as high as the US...thats my big pet peeve. People who live in other countries are clean too...most of Europe doesn't count as a third world country.
So yes, I got one in the UK and I am still alive and didn't get any infections

Actually in some countries it is more safe & regulated more strongly than in the US. There are a ton of international shops I'd go to before I go to some here in the states
Oh and I almost forgot, if I ever had the means, time & balls, I'd love to get a traditional hand mallot/bamboo tattoo in Japan.

*sigh* I so wanted to go to Prague on this trip...
I really want something simple on my wrist, I think if I get a good recommendation, I might just do it I have been wanting to for a few years now...might as well sh!t or get off the pot
