Does anybody or their spouse

Work at Goldman Sachs?

If so, HAPPY HOLIDAYS Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

A big, big bonus at Goldman Sachs By N.J. Burkett
(New York - WABC, December 13, 2006) - Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs will set a record this year when it comes to paying bonuses.

It is giving out $16.5 billion. Some top executives are expected to get a whopping $100 million dollars.
They are the highest paid people in one of the world's richest cities, and they're about to make even more.

After a year of record profits on Wall Street, investment banks are dividing up the winnings. Goldman Sachs is reportedly leading the way:

Average worker at Goldman will take home $622,000 this year Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Senior administrators will get $5 to 10 million dollars
Senior executives and traders get $10 to 20 million each
Company CEO and department heads get $25 million
Top traders will get $50 million and more
"The reason they're making so much money for themselves is because they're making so much money for their firms ... You can debate all day whether it's fair or unfair but they're being compensated as a portion of what they're making," Neil Weinberg, of Forbes Magazine, said.

The bonuses help fuel the city's economy through income taxes and sales taxes. Everyone from luxury car dealers to jewelers will feel it.

But economists say Wall Street's richest drive up the cost of living in New York and widen the gap between the rich and everyone else.

I'm assuming that most ppl in that company would make at least 100K. they are known for paying very generously. I bet even the Admins get paid around 100K or more

Don't be to jealous, my best friend works there, she has no personal life. She works 13-14 hour days - every day. A number of old GS people work with me now and they all say the same thing - the hours are horrible in all the departments. You may be making a big bonus, but that doesn't give you your life back. yea, I guess you have a point.

No...I started at Morgan Stanley after college but had an offer from Goldman too. They were both below 6 figures. High salaries for a 21 year old, certainly, but the traders and sales people straight from college and in training programs don't make 6 figures to start...Not for a while until you have your own accounts.

Again it is the avg worker. I don't think a 22 year old is the average worker. I would assume it was somebody with several years under their belt.

I work for Big 4 Accounting firm and I work more hours than I care to think. My client is on wall street I pass Deutsche Bank every night when I leave - and they're all just coming down to pick up their dinners to head back up to do work.

That being said - it is still a VERY nice bonus.

Oh, I know, I definitely believe it, I just meant not everyone makes that much. They do have large training programs that are basically all people straight from college, but the managing director salaries definitely make up for the young people.

I used to work for Goldman. They do pay very well compared to other firms - but most financial services firms pay pretty well.

As for Admin, my assistant (she worked for me and two others) was making about $75k when i was working there, which was about 5 years ago. Most of the experienced admin there are probably making close to $100 but there probably arent too many that are making more than $100.

The people that make the big bucks are the higher ups, the revenue generators.

I had opportunities to work for Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns, and Alliance Capital. I just couldn't imagine myself dealing with the stress - and I know i made the right choice.

The people at Morgan Stanley were my favorite to interview with. They had the most personality. I didn't like the HR people at Bear Stearns and Alliance Capital - well...I would never advise anyone to apply - I was contacted by them. They were jerks.
