? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
I'm just trying to get an idea of how much of a buyer's market LI real estate really is. If anyone would like to share the price they paid for their home in relation to the original asking price that would be great.
I'm not looking for actual #s..I realize that's personal. I'm just looking for percentages..For example, if the seller was asking $100k and you bid $90k and paid $95k, you can just say that you "bid 90% of asking price and ultimately paid 95% of asking price."
Thanks!!

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
We offered 35,000 less than asking price and actually paid 30,000 less. They only countered back at 5 grand more.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
Of course, it's hard to generalize based on those numbers, because every situation and every seller's motivation is different.
However, to get helpful info on the current market, you really want to limit it to sales that have closed in the last 3 months and to the town or towns you are interested in.
I have access to all of those stats - if you want to let me know (you can FM me) the town or towns you are looking in, I can run the numbers for you and let you know the average % difference between selling price and asking price (at the time the deal went to contract, as opposed to original list price) for the past 3 months.

our house was listed high, and went through a lot of price drops. We purchased for about 15% less than original asking price.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
The asking was 312 and we ended up at 303 but I dont remember all bids.....there were a bunch.
I dont htink you can go by other peoples #s though. Ours had a lot to do witht he fact it was an estate sale.
Each seller has their own story as to why they are sellign. Also some houses are listed at the right price so you won't get much room for negoitation.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
We originally bid about $12k less than asking and ended up paying asking price. For us, the house was priced right, moved fast...we almost lost it to a full cash offer and we're completely 100% happy with our decision. I love my house

Re:
On our current house (closed August 2010) Bid ~91% Paid ~92%
But this was after a few big drops in asking price. Going by original asking price, we would have bid ~66%, paid 67%. The house was tremendously overpriced to start. I thought what we paid was the fair market value.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
nov 2009, asking price was 275K, our price was 225K and that is what we closed at. Her pricing was way off for the current numbers and since this was a FSBO I showed her comps in the area. We actually probably should of asked for less because two other homes closed for less then that and had new roofs/siding which we only had a new roof.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
Bid asking price with 25% down , we knew it was priced to sell since we had been looking for two years. Good thing we were able to put more down then others or else we would have been outbid bc there were other asking price offers but our terms were better.

Re: ? for Homeowners- Your bid and price paid vs original asking price
Asking was 499k we paid 488. We are in a Nassau county town where the housing market remained stable so no room to negotiate. It was on the market one day when we agreed on a price. We had 20 percent down and a coop that we were not going to sell, so the owner accepted s couple thousand less then what he wanted.

We paid full asking 2 years ago. I think it's a really misleading question, because if a house is priced according to fair market value, you shouldn't be treating your offer as if it is overpriced and deserves two or three negotiations back and forth.
