What age by law in NY can a child sit in the front seat?

Age of child to sit in front seat
Although New York does not have a law preventing children from sitting in the front seat, it is highly recommended that all children age 12 and under ride properly restrained in the back seat.

There is no law, I see 7 8 9 year olds in the front seat all the time at school. I didn't let my son ride in the front seat until he was like 16.

Well there is a law that all children ride in child restraint systems until their 8th birthday

My DD is 8.5 and I don't let her in the front yet but she's also still in her highback booster as well. When I was kid, I was "allowed" to sit in the front by around 9-10 yrs old. I probably won't let my kids until around age 12.

DS was in the back until 13. DD will probably be at least 13 as well, maybe longer since she's on the smaller side. DS is taller than me and DW at 13, so it almost seems silly forcing him in the back now...

The problem is their weight.
If they don't weigh enough, the airbags will be disabled.
An airbag won't deploy unless there is at least a certain amount of weight in the seat.
I am not sure what that weight is.
Either way, the back seat is the safest place for any child 12 and under I would think

not only that but airbags can actually be deadly for younger children.
Not before age of 12 I can't believe how many people allow their children in the front and how many people allow their kids to not be in a booster until proper height.
My DD is 6 and still use a 5 point harness 95% of the time
