Detention for all
What do you think about an entire class getting detention in 6th grade? It will be during lunch period

Too vague. Depends what it was for. Just hard to imagine an entire class would be punished. There's always a few good apples right

For what? Like, what happened?
I think this is a fairly common form of discipline if the entire class misbehaved. And keeping them during lunch is a good option for students who take the bus home or have after school sports etc.

Depending on what happened, I think it's fine. The only thing worse than detention are the social effects of how pissed classmates will be at the offender. Definitely a good deterrent for future bad behavior.

I recall that happening to us starting in 5th or 6th. Not detention, but entire class punishment essays or something similar. I don't recall what we did wrong though, lol.

Depends on the infraction....however, unless it was the entire class plotting a coup, I don't see the need.

This happened a lot when I was a kid. Class writing punishments (write the same phrase over and over 1000x, etc.). It was awful and I hated it. I never understood why we all had to suffer thanks to the usual offenders.

Not a fan of the entire class being punished if it was only a few kids. Obviously if the entire class was out of line then they all need to be punished.
Unfortunately I saw too often an entire class being punished for the same 2 or 3 kids.

I agree. It's not fair to the quiet studious kids. Staying in during recess or lunch period isn't as bad as all the crap writing punishments I had to endure for the handful of offenders. However, if the whole class did the crime then I agree with punishment as a whole.

As a former teacher, I can tell you it's not uncommon either, and it was something I used sometimes. There were years when most of the kids were not following directions, or completing work. (I taught in NYC and always had large classes). Often I would keep them until the work was completed. If it was done for behavior, I more often than not let those very few well behaved kids out.

In my day it was common! In grammar school we had whole class detentions ALL THE TIME! My grade happened to be the the bad grade in the school! Wow, brings back a lot of memories!

I dont know I dont have kids BUT if I had detention or was part of a class detention my parents would not have been bothered. I grew during a time, if you or the class was in trouble so be it.
I dont think it would bother me. Sometimes the bad apple is not pointed out and everyone pays.
No different than a adults when working on a team, one bad apple can cause issues for all on a project, but co-workers might not point the finger
can suck, but we all survived
