Re: Funny detention slips
I saw that article and was about to post it here. I was in the same position as Alex. I got detention for standing up to my teacher when she made a factually incorrect statement. She wrote me up for detention too. Instead of reporting for detention I went to the principals office, explained the situation and he walked with me back to class, pulled the teacher out and then made her apologize to me in front of the class. The principal then said to the class if a teacher was incorrect we should say something.

Re: Funny detention slips
I got detention several times from a seriously pervvy old gym teacher who used to like to show female students how to inprove their tennis (golf, basketball, hockey, stretching) form by putting his arms around you and any girl that resisted was sent to the office for being "disrespectful." The principals knew he was a creeper and would give you detention during his class, lol. Guess who had detention during gym for an entire year?

Re: Funny detention slips
DS has corrected a couple of teachers already...
I'm trying to teach him to disagree with the teacher respectfully, though, and that sometimes the teacher isn't "wrong", it's just they they have to simplify things sometimes.
DS knows that the Earth isn't a sphere, so he disagreed with his 1st grade teacher when she explained to the class that it was. He was respectful, so she actually appreciated learning something new, and she seemed thrilled that he did that when we met her at Parent-Teacher conference....
I think he corrected his 2nd grade teacher, too, but I forget what it was about....

Re: Funny detention slips
In college I was constantly butting heads with my English Lit teacher. We would discuss and interpret poems and stories and we would have differing opinions. She kicked me out on more then one occasion. I went straight to the Deans office and explained the drama in class. I also showed him some of my papers that I knew she gave me a lower grade on then I deserved. The final was a paper that had to be dropped off in her office mailbox. My paper was handed in on time. I called the phone service to get my grades and she failed me! I went right back to the Deans office. He called her at home and asked what happened, she said I didn't hand my paper in on time. I assured him I did and even told him who elses papers were in her basket when I dropped mine off. Shockingly when we went to check the basket, my paper was sitting there all alone. He made her drive in to get my paper and I wound up with a B+ in the class. And for the record, the prior semester I received an award for writing and was tutoring for the school. So the idea of me failing an English class was just absurd.

Funny detention slips
DH got suspended in high school because he argued with his biology teacher, who told the class that mice have no bones. DH has a very abrasive personality so I'm sure that he was less than respectful. But still.... And if I were Alex's parents I would be furious!!

Re: Funny detention slips
I would raise hell if I was Alex's parent. You're gonna give my kid detention because he let you know you were wrong? EFF THAT Next time just take my teachings and that's it? What an arrogant @sshole.
I would go straight to the principal and let them know my child would NOT be going to detention for that instance. Perhaps the teacher should use that moment to teach her students about humility and how even a teacher can be wrong.

Re: Funny detention slips
I'm not trying to make a blanket statement about teachers but I often see my teacher friends on fb make mistakes (mostly obvious grammatical stuff like then and than). I'm not sure how I would handle being corrected by a student- I'd probably assume he was correct and quickly google it on my phone, lol. I'd probably wanna teach like first grade since they wouldn't really notice mistakes, lol.
