Maybe it's because it it's an election year, but I feel like thanksgiving snuck up on us.

Are you making any new recipes this year, or was anything a hit last year that you're going to make again?

I'm going to do a mac & cheese with some diced up jalapeño and Panko crumbs but looking for some other ideas too

I'm really the only one who eats pecan pie, so I'm probably not gonna do that this year. I did do a chocolate covered Bavarian cream puff cake And that was a hit… So I might make that again

Last year I made scalloped potatoes and popovers with cheese. Too much cheese. Chat Icon Chat Icon

This year I am going to keep it simple and make Pillsbury Grands biscuits instead of popovers. Chat Icon It's just DH, DD and I so I am not going to go nuts. Last year my turkey came out great so I am hoping to repeat that. I may try a new vegetable this year. We also donate a dish to an area diner that serves a free Thanksgiving dinner which is another reason to keep our own meal uncomplicated.

ETA- the scalloped potatoes were a Skinnytaste recipe but did not taste low-fat. Though DD wants mashed potatoes.

And I made this gravy last year- so good. And I don't really like gravy. link

I'm a guest this year at DH's cousin's and will be bringing some of the dessert.
A tray of brownies, blondies and lemon bars, easy for a dessert buffet. Might do another bar type item as well.

I usually go to my sisters and we cook together.

Re: How is thanksgiving next week? And let's talk food

SO's family tradition is to go away for almost the whole week and go CAMPING. these people are nuts!!

last year was my first time and i HATED IT. i don't know how i'm going to live through another year of it.

now, SO's birthday is right after thanksgiving... so i made a thanksgiving dinner for his bday last year.

i made:

ham
green bean casserole (EPIC WIN)
gf biscuits (EPIC FAIL)
pioneer woman mashed potatoes (EPIC WIN)
mushroom gravy (even the mushroom hater loved it)
cornbread dressing (my favorite side)
sweet potatoes

oh my, i know i made more stuff but i can't remember.

i can't wait to have my own place to cook the way i like... you know, TOO MUCH FOOD and then complain about all the left overs Chat Icon
