November Weekend Getaway
DH & I want to go on a weekend getaway for our anniversary in November without the kids, any suggestions not more that 3 hours away?
We've never been to Lake George, but I'm not sure if there is much to do in the fall?
Thanks in advance!

Re: November Weekend Getaway
There's really nothing to do in Lake George past September. Everything closes down and it's practically a ghost town.
Last year in December we went to Stowe, VT and it was AMAZING. I'm not sure how November would be, but we're not skiers anyway, so having actual snow on the ground wasn't a necessity to us. We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn and while it was beautiful and romantic, we fell in love with another inn up there that we're DYING to stay at soon. It's called Edson Hill. The place is tucked away in the mountain (not a far drive from town and shops and restaurants though). It's its own little escape with the main lodge housing a restaurant and tavern. Amazingly decorated - like I swore I was in a movie. Lanterns everywhere, fireplace roaring, couches and pillows everywhere, lush fuzzy rugs, throw blankets galore, branches and candles hanging from the ceilings. Literally THE most romantic place I've ever stepped foot in. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was just spectacular. Just steps away from the main lodge are these private cozy "suites" that are little cabins. All professionally decorated, each with their own fireplace and the owners deliver wood to your front porch each day. Very rustic, but very "new" and updated. I swear I could hole up in one of those suites for 4 days and never step foot outside It's very intimate. I believe only something like 20 rooms in the whole place and they don't like to fill to capacity. The owners like to get to know their guests,so they hang out down in the tavern at the bar by the fireplace and chit chat with some of the guests. There's a pond on site for fishing (and in the daytime the dining room has an amazing view of the ground and pond from every angle) , a beautiful patio overlooking the pond with Adirondack chairs, horseback riding and snowshoeing on site. And if you want to get out and about, they're only about 5 minutes to Stowe Mountain Resort (for skiing and such), and a 3 minute drive to all the restaurants and shops in town. We also did some cider tasting, wine tasting, visited the Ben & Jerry's Factory, etc. while we were there. There's also a spectacular spa at the Green Mountain Inn that we did couples massages at. It was my favorite fall/winter getaway BY FAR. We plan to go back in the next year or two and this time stay at Edson Hill.

You have me sold! lol
To the original poster - we went to The Lodge at Woodloch last Fall and really enjoyed it! Very high end but still so down to earth and comfortable. The food and other services were excellent, also love their spa!

Re: November Weekend Getaway
I went to Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa with my husband last year for my 40th birthday. It was amazing! It's up in the Hudson Valley area in NY.
They have a great farm-to-table restaurant on site with a bar, beautiful grounds, a fabulous spa (my husband's not into spa treatments but he could sit by the indoor pool and have drinks and read while I got my massages).
It's near the Culiinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, so we had dinner at one of their restaurants (we went to the French one, but they also have an Italian restaurant and American)... it was a great dining experience.
There are lots of wineries and breweries and distilleries nearby for tastings/tours.
We went in February, but it would be even more beautiful and scenic in fall.
Our room had a fireplace, a jacuzzi tub... it was so relaxing. Perfect for a romantic getaway.

November Weekend Getaway
Just wanted to share an update... So we decided to go to Lake George and just went this past weekend. We stayed at the Fort William Henry (Bought a Groupon). We went to the Adirondack Winery, went to the Queensbury outlets, walked around the cute town (there was a Harvest Festival) and we also did the FWH Ghost Tour, and also went up Mount Prospect. Overall we had a great time, just wish we could have done more but it rained.
