infant blood in poop
Hi. I'm taking my 4 moment old to pediatrician today, but has anyone had any experience with occasional streak of blood in stool in diaper? It's not every diaper. I breastfeed and supplement with similac for supplementation. thanks

Re: infant blood in poop
Sometimes that is a sign of a milk protein allergy. They will test a dirty diaper to see if that is the case

infant blood in poop
My daughter had blood in her poop at eight weeks old- she had multiple food allergies that she outgrew by 12 months old- her diagnosis was allergic proctocollitis.

Thanks everyone. He thinks it's an anal fissure but gave me a kit to collect a sample to be tested anywsy. He says it's normal to get small fissures from the way they have explosive poops. guess we'll see...

Re: infant blood in poop
I started noticing blood in infant poop around 11 weeks and the ped first suggested anal fissures, but said it could also be milk protein intolerance. it turned out to be the latter, and within a couple weeks of the first noticeable blood the poop also turned mucousy, consistently green, more explosive and just clearly not normal BF poop. so we knew it wasn't just anal fissures. keep an eye on it and look for other signs of a protein intolerance.

infant blood in poop
My dd had blood in her poops. We tried a few different formulas and eventually settled on alimentum. She was also a fussy beast and the alimenum helped with that. We were told a milk protein allergy but when we took her to the GI, she found nothing. I'm questioning whether she actually has an allergy or if it was just fissures (she had a fissure every time we took her to the ped for blood).
So yes, it could totally just be fissures!

Something similar happened to both of my DSs, except the green part, for ds1 I switched him from similac advance to s. alimentum and that worked. For ds2 I had to eliminate all dairy from my diet, and after 1 month or so I started seeing changes.

My ped said that if there is blood in DD's poop and no anal fissure than it is a milk protein allergy, period. He didn't even have me test the poop. We noticed the blood when we attempted to introduce formula because I wanted to be done with breast feeding at 8 weeks. In the end I decided to eliminate dairy and soy and continue breast feeding and not put her on allimentum or nutragimen. The blood in her poop stopped once I eliminated all of those things from my diet. She out grew the dairy intolerance around 7 months and was able to be on regular formula with no problem.

Re: infant blood in poop
update- so the stool samples were negative for blood. guess it really is just fissures. I just feel badly because sometimes he seems so fussy until he poops.
