Kids Seeing Ghosts

So DS (2.5 years old) wanted to take a nap in my bed yesterday afternoon. I was laying with him, and he got quiet for a minute so I thought he fell asleep. Then he said out of nowhere, "The ghost isn't here now, but it will be back later." Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think all the hairs on my body stood up on end. I asked him what he meant, did he see a ghost, and he just said a couple more times the ghost is coming back later. He didn't seem scared at all.

So I was really freaked out yesterday, I slept with the lights on until DH came to bed, and we clearly have to move (just kidding, sort of).

Is this (I hope) something common for kids this age to say?

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

I don't know if it's common or not, but DD has said several similar things prob. starting at the same age as your DS. But you can't go by me because I totally feel like my house is haunted and that she legit sees things (we all have). So in my case, I feel like it's not just "things kid say".
Let's hope in your case, he just has a vivid imagination. Chat Icon

There are DEFINITELY spirits in my house. The stories would freak most people out. DS hasn't said anything per se, but there have been times where his actions/reactions to things are super freaky.

Kids Seeing Ghosts

DS waves to people who aren't there and talks to them. We have a lot of angels watching over us, and I know they come to visit him.

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

I have heard before that kids can connect with people who have passed more than adults can. Not sure if it's true or not, but I guess it's totally possible. My almost 2.5 year old DD has been talking a lot more about monsters and being afraid of the dark. She has asked to sleep with a light on, but I usually just put on her night light and humidifier light.
Sometimes at night I hear her in her crib talking. Not sure if she is talking to anyone or just herself.
When I hear her I sometimes look at her on the monitor. One time, I swear there was an orbe in the video. When I went to show DH and it disappeared. As soon as it disappeared DD said "Bye bye". It was kind of spooky. It doesn't affect her mood or her personality so I just roll with it.

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

It's just spirit coming to visit. Now, it could be spirit of your loved ones who have passed on or it could be the spirit from a former person in the home. But usually those spirits don't stick around too much or make their presence that known. It is likely a family member of yours. It is so sweet to think they come back and visit - especially with the younger people.

And a lot of psychic mediums and others have said kids have the ability to see easier than adults do because they aren't "taught" yet not to believe or aren't "taught" yet by society kind of like, "oh that can't be real! that's crazy talk!" kind of a thing.

They mean no harm and it clearly is a positive spirit presence as your son's reaction was calm. If you watch Long Island Medium they cover this from time to time - it is amazing and really touching.

If you want them gone or to no longer visit you could have the home "saged" -- you can google what sage is and have that done. But I would let them come and go! Any close relatives pass? Anyone you lost maybe would want to come back?

My grandfather, I believe, sends me signs all the time - and I feel him with me all the time. My grandmother not as much but she's just not that pushy of a person. My grandfather - always. He was pushy LOL!

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

My dd sees a ghost named Cece. The way she describes her, she looks just like my mom (who has passed). My dd has been "seeing" her and talking to her for a few years now.

My 3rd pregnancy ended in a miscarriage almost 7 years ago. If all went well and it was a girl, she would have been named Eleanor. My two girls were very small then (3 and 1.5) and didn't know I was even pregnant, let alone any names. They still don't know, in fact.

About a year after the miscarriage, I got pregnant with my son who is now 5. Needless to say, he doesn't know about any of this. We do not know one single Eleanor.

When my son was about 3, he was playing in his room alone and I was down the hall in mine. In a clear voice he said, "Oh, there you are Eleanor! Want to play with me?" I paused a moment then went into ask; he simply replied that she left.

We've had one other incident of a "spirit presence." I love hearing these stories! Doesn't frighten me at all.

The freakiest thing happened a month or so ago.

Put DS (2yo) in his crib for the night, turned on the monitor next to my bed and went to sleep.

He typically wakes up at 1-2am and I bring him to bed with us.

I woke up for work at 6 and realized he had never woken up. I looked at my monitor and it was turned OFF. My video monitor was broken, so I had picked up a cheapie audio monitor to use in the meantime. I vividly remember switching the green light on, and even DH remembered seeing it lit.

I went to the nursery and opened the door. DS was NOT in his crib.

Just to clarify - in 2 years, he had never even ONCE attempted to climb out of his crib. NEVER.

He had somehow gotten out of his crib and was asleep on his snug-a-puppy chair with his blanket.

Now, if he had climbed out and fallen, and cried, or cried to get out of his room. I would have heard him I am a very light sleeper and the walls are thin. NO way did he scream and cry and no one heard him. I simply can't bring myself to think that he was crying all alone in the dark Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

He has never slept in his room again. To be honest, he's doesn't even really go in his room except to get toys.

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

My Dad passed away in 2001 and my son was born in 2009. There was one corner in my living room that my son would stare at and be very relaxed. I noticed this at 3 months old. Anytime he was crying and I sat down near that spot, he would calm right down... When he was older, I showed him a picture of my Dad and he said Grandpa!!!! I had never talked to him about it before. I know he was seeing him in that spot..... My son is now 6 and his dad passes away 20 months ago, I hear him talking to his dad at night... He sees him every once in a while in the house...

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

DS is 6 yo. We just moved into a new home in October. It's not an old house by any means...built in the 60's. Last week I'm downstairs and DS is in his bedroom. I walk past the stairs and overhear him upstairs in his room saying "Your name is Larry? Nice to meet you. My name is CJ" I about had a panic attack. I'm praying it's an imaginary friend but I really don't think so. Chat Icon

The second my daughter could talk and put together sentences she started talking about spirits. She wasn't even 2. It went on really strong for about 8mos and slowly started calming down. She's 3 now and it's every once in a while and not as frequent. It freaked me out for a while.

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

We had a few weird encounters with my DD.
She said she saw a man in the corner & was freaked when he "disappeared".
She then said she saw a girl outside the window (she's on the second story).
Both times I told her there was no one there... But went around & said to "leave the kids alone & not come back... It's my house now".
That's worked. Next step would have been to have the house blessed.

Re: Kids Seeing Ghosts

My Dad passed last December and one of my sons says some really weird stuff about Heaven(stuff that we've never told him) although he doesnt see anything. About a month after my Dad passed, I was cleaning up after everyone went to bed. My kids have a toy truck that has a cab and then a car carrier trailer piece that comes off. I found the trailer but was thinking to myself, where did that truck cab go., I walked into my LR where the truck cab proceeded to shoot off a shelf I have into the middle of the room. Hi Dad:)
