NT Scan & BW Results
Figured I'd post here since it gets more traffic for BTDT moms.
My OB just called me with the results of my NT scan & bloodwork and told me that the test came back abnormal. Apparently the cutoff ratio they use is 1:315 for the combo results of NT scan & BW. Mine came back at 1:229 so now she wants me to meet a genetics counselor for additional testing. I am meeting them on Monday. Has this happened to anyone? Can you share your experiences? I will opt to do the non-invasive testing first – do you remember how long it took to get those results? I'm 30yo.

NT Scan & BW Results
i did not deal with it but my sis came back as 1:4. She opted to have additional testing and he son is perfectly fine.
I would meet with the counselor as they will go over the test in detail and give you options. There are many tests out there now that are not as invasive as say an amnio. That being said I had an amnio and would be happy to answer any questions down the road....I don't even think you are near that point yet.
Try not to freak because your results are not bad by any means!!!!

Mine came back 1:5, and we opted for the amnio. By the time we got the results, I was 21 weeks. I think you have to decide what you would do if the results came back as not normal. If you would keep the pregnancy, then there's no reason to put yourself though more invasive tests than necessary. If you would terminate, then you should find out how long it would take to get the final results.
I'm sure everything will be ok!

Re: NT Scan & BW Results
NT scans notoriously give back false positives, but it's a good first step. Your next step is likely to do another blood panel which will be more accurate. If that test still comes back with potential issues, then you can opt for a CVS or amnio which are more invasive.
The blood test takes about 10 business days for the results, and you can probably have it done right after meeting with the genetics counselor.
for you and your baby!

NT Scan & BW Results
I heard of this happening to a crap ton of people and always the baby turns out fine. I think the NT scan and blood work tends to give out a lot of false positives.
We met with a genetic counselor mainly because of my age and our history of m/c. It was very informative. We also had the Materni21 test done which I understand is much more accurate in diagnosing genetic conditions. You should inquire about having this done. Good luck!

Re: NT Scan & BW Results
Mine was just under 1:300 (maybe 1:290 or something) but I had also gotten the maternal DNA testing, which came back negative. As my doctor said, 1/300 is still really really low odds, and the cutoff is fairly arbitrary. Later testing around 16 weeks (I'm forgetting then name...) pushed me well into the normal range. I did not get any further invasive testing because we knew that we would be having this baby no matter what, and I had a friend lose a baby following a cvs test, so we did not want to go more invasive. My doctor was really not pushing us either based on the 1:300 results.

Re: NT Scan & BW Results
Had similar results with both kids. Did the 16 week test with the first, it was just another scan and blood work, and everything was fine. Opted for no further tests for the 2nd and she had no abnormalities either.
You have to do what makes you most comfortable.

Re: NT Scan & BW Results
I had similar results 6 years ago. My repeat non invasive bloods had to be done 1 month later. I wanted to avoid the risk of miscarriage with a CVS & if the blood results were still borderline, I'd have the amnio.
Maybe you could do the maternity21... That takes 10 days (? Coverage with your insurance).
My DS was born perfectly fine. It was a terrible month wait though.

NT Scan & BW Results
Thanks, girls.
I did ask her if I could do the maternit21 test instead of meeting with the genetic counselor and she said that all genetic testing had to go through the state. Not sure what she means by that bc I know many of you get it done by your OB’s. I didn’t push back really bc I am seeing the genetic counselor on Monday so what’s a 1 day difference? The waiting game is what is going to drive me nuts.

You should absolutely be able to get the mat 21 test and it should be covered by insurance because you had something come back abnormal. That being said, the NT scan is a pretty bad test.. Tons of False positives. the Mat 21 is much more accurate and specific. Hang in there

I had genetic testing, not Maternit21, same test but a different company. Anyway, I had to have it done through a genetic counselor. Not my OB.

I had the Mat21 test. They said results would be back in 2 weeks but I got mine within 2-3 days.
