What do you use that is over the counter. It's bad but not bad enough to go to the doctor

Switch to water wipes (wipes actually called water wipes). Has helped my dd tremendously. We like the dr smiths cream.

This. Although we just used a reusiable wipe (purchased on Amazon) with warm water. When DS had a diaper rash, using wipes just prevented it from healing. As for cream, we used both Desitin Max and Triple Paste.

Target brand works wonders! It goes on really smoothly and it has 40% zinc oxide in it (most other brands have 10-14%). Love it!

Re: Diaper Rash
Triple Paste if it's really bad. I tend to use A and D or Desitin on a daily basis as a preventative. Once when DS had a rash so bad it was starting to bleed, the pediatrician recommended mixing equal parts Maalox and desitin. Worked like a charm. If it's spotty and nothing works on it, it's probably bacterial and you'll need an anti fungal cream.

Triple paste has always worked for us in the past. Currently battling one that won't go away though so we were just prescribed nystatin for it. I thought it was from trying a new diaper brand but apparently it's yeast.

When it would get bad I used to buy gauze from the drugstore and just run them under water to wipe my dd instead of wipes which just irritate further. Their disposable and cheap get the drugstore brand not a name brand. They have large ones. My friend is a pediatric nurse she said use straight corn starch. Like go to the baking aisle and buy cornstarch. Make sure after you wipe you dry the area never close the diaper when its still wet or put any creams on because then your just locking in the moisture which makes it worse.
Eta I have also used the good ole desitin which works like a charm too

I always felt it worked great but didn't have a lot to compare it to... Until the daycare director at my son's school told me it was the best thing she had ever used. She said she had babies with rashes and their parents tried everything unsuccessfully until that.

Re: Diaper Rash
lots of time in the buff to air it out ( as much as i can without having a panic attack that there will be pee every where ) and then Desitin. when it seems like it's happening often, i try to use less wipes, more water. i keep a spray bottle near the changing table.

Re: Diaper Rash
Lots of air and A&D. Dd had a rxn to anything with zinc oxide in it when she was inflamed.
