UPDATE :3 Day Potty Training-This weekend

I read the instructions and I have a couple of questions.

It says to use a potty training chair, I have the rubber seat that goes on top of our regular toilet bowl. Is that ok?

What type of rewards did you use?

My DD always has a full diaper in the morning when she wakes up. Did you guys really wake your DC in the middle of the night to see if they need to use the bathroom?

any tips?? I'm scared

UPDATE: with this being probably the last nice summer weekend we are going to have. DH convinced me to wait till next month. Thanks for the tips ladies, I'll keep you posted next month!

We used a seat on top of our toilet. I hate those separate potty seats.

We used m&m's for reward but by day 2 da was over the reward so we didn't use anything after that.

We didn't wake at night and actually he only had an accident on night one. After that no night accidents. It was actually easier to night "train" him than it was day!

Just wanted to say best of luck. My ds is going on almost 3 weeks of the suppossed 3 day method

I have lil potty

Rewards have been dollar tree trinkets

I use nothing on him til its time to go to sleep. When hes asleep i slip on a pull up.

I took DD to the store and she picked out a little potty, but I also had the seat that goes over the regular toilet seat.

I rewarded her with M&M's for doing pee and a little toy for poop.

The first day I tried having her wear underwear and she kept having accidents, so I tried no underwear (and no pants) on day 2 and it clicked, she yelled "the pee-pee is coming out" and ran to her little potty and went.

She was waking up dry for a while, so I have no advice on waking during the night.

On more tip, I put down shower curtain liners from the dollar store over the carpets just in case of accidents.

we used the seat that goes on the regular toilet...i didnt want to think about cleaning out a small potty seat

For rewards, we picked out a few of DDs favorite things...m&m was the snack of choice, and we got her stickers, bracelets and one toy that i cant recall

For night time, we did not wake her up. the first night she woke up wet...but it didnt phase her. she peed and went right back to sleep...we didnt notice til we got her up in the morning. the second night she was dry...and stayed dry for almost a month. not sure what changed but she started having accidents every.single.night. we tried to wake her before we went to sleep (around 11pm) to have her go, but she would still wake up wet. we gave in and put her in pull ups...and she continues to wear pull ups to sleep but fortunately does not have accidents during the day. for a point of reference, we trained her in January when she was 23 months old...shes been in pullups since March. 75% of morning she wakes up with a full pull up. I tried one night last week to skip the pull up and she woke up at 6am that she was wet and that was it, she wouldnt go back to sleep and she was a cranky mess. so back to pull ups i went. i know its discouraged with the 3 day method (which is what we used), but we opted to modify it as it works for us

We have both types of seats. Dd was hugely motivated by being able to go all by herself, so unfortunately the little potty was a must for us (so gross, but I don't think our training would have worked w/o it)

We did not give rewards, just praise. Dd was motivated to get rid of diapers though.

We did not start nighttime training right away. After about 5 days of day trained, she started waking up with dry diapers, and we took away diapers at night after 4 nights of dry diapers.

I gave mini M&M's. I tried pushing the issues with DDs but they weren't having it. One day, one of them just woke up and peed on the potty. I called DH at work and said, ok, 3day starts NOW! lol
I found it the most helpful to keep saying, " is your underwear dry?" Good job! Instead of "do you have to go"
My other DD took like 7 days same method, same prizes...just different kids. GL!

UPDATE :3 Day Potty Training-This weekend

I have both the little potty and the seat that fits over a regular toilet. I leave one in each of our bathrooms, so if one bathroom is being used she has always has her own potty or seat available. She also likes getting to choose which one she uses each time she goes. Its not as bad as I thought it would be to clean out the little potty. I just jump it in the toilet and wipe it with a Lysol wipe. DD gets a kick out of helping me dump it and then she gets to flush. The little potty is great to bring in the car for outings and running errands. Its come in handy a lot in helping us avoid gross public bathrooms.

We had been using stickers as rewards when we first started introducing the potty to DD. But she lost interest So we stopped. What really seemed to motivate her was when we kept complimenting her big girl underwear and saying how great she was doing keeping them dry. We also promised her a special toy when she didn't need diapers anymore, and that seemed to motivate her on the days that she wanted to be lazy and keep the diaper on.

I will keep putting her in diapers for sleeping until she consistently wakes up dry. Right now she wakes up dry sometimes. But I know she can't control the times she wakes up wet, and I don't think it's worth it to stress us all out and ruin all of our sleep over something she can't control.
