October weekend getaway for mom and 3 kids
My kids are 7, 6 and 15 months old. My kids and I have been through literal hell this summer, plus hard times for the last almost 2 years. Looking for a not to pricey place to take them. I'm likely winging this solo with no other adult so I need something fun yet easy to keep the kids together and not terribly far and very safe. Thinking right before Halloween.

Baltimore
You can drive to both and do either on any kind of budget. Tons of kids stuff.

Washington DC!
You can find a hotel for not much $$$.
Everything else is free (museums, national parks, even tours).

before trekking to another city, why not just bring them into Manhattan for the weekend? TONs to do, beutiful weather in October ......
Or, head out east for the weekend - Lots of farmstands, apple picking, hayrides, Harbes Farm and a bunch of others have stuff set up for the kids to literally run around and play ALL day - crafts, bounce houses, pig races, pumpkink picking, corn mazes etc etc. You could pack lunch / dinner for a picnic, and even still hang out at the beach that time of year w/o bundling them like crazy
You could do the aquarium while you're out there too, but that's kind of $$$
