being proud of yourself for doing a grown up thing

this morning i texted someone who i've been kind of on the outs with, and we're ok. i put the big girl panties on and bit the bullet.

what other kinds of things have you done that you're proud of yourself for? Things you might not have done in your earlier decades?Chat Icon

i let a lot more things go. Things that would have set me on edge and started a fight, are now dismissed.

I stopped caring about what other people think. I dyed my hair, pierced my nose, I wear what I want whether it's in style or not. I get a lot of Chat Icon but it's mostly from my family, not friends, and who gives a flip what they think? Chat Icon

agreed, the life's too short thing i think is the key. plus once you realize what stress and aggravation do to your health, not worth it.

Re: being proud of yourself for doing a grown up thing

I let more things roll off my back instead of getting all upset and bothered.
I've pretty much developed a "whatever" attitude, and it has calmed me down quite a bit.

I've also learned that I cannot take care of the world. Me first, then DH, the 2 Dads, then whomever else I chose to take care of. Sounds selfish, but again, it has calmed me down a lot and my stress level has decreased somewhat.
DH and the 2 Dads stress me enough.

I just don't have the energy anymore to deal with bull$hit.

I used to have quite the temper.

I don't get worked up about much of anything anymore.

I gained a lot of perspective over the years!

I ignore a lot of things that probably would have upset or annoyed me in the past. I am also very organized now. My family and friends are impressed as I used to be the queen of disorganization.

However, I'm still a major procrastinator, a shopaholic and always late.

Let other people control my happiness. Forgive people who hurt me so I can be happy.

I still color my hair but not as often as I used to. If people see my gray, oh well.

Since having LO, I just don't care about the BS anymore. I just remove myself from the situation.

I worry about dd, Dh and my fur babies. I used to get all worked up about other people's lives and now I don't give a flying fudge. It's liberating.

I forgive a lot more now but I don't forget. I don't stand for BS and don't let it in my life.

And I'm happy with who I am. I've worked my butt off and I'm now reaping the rewards while others are stuck where they have always been.

Re: being proud of yourself for doing a grown up thing

I avoid drama at all costs. If you are too much drama I cut you out of my life. I have zero patience for it.

I used to be extremely materialistic. Always wanted/needed bigger and better. I would obsess over what Gucci bag I wanted next, what piece of jewelry I should ask DH for, etc.
I don't know what happened but one day I just stopped caring. Maybe it was so gradual that I didn't notice... but now I couldn't care less about that crap. I rather have that money in savings or go towards my children's college funds. I don't know if that is something "Grown up" but I'm soooo much more content now then I ever was before.

I lost my job last week. Next week I have an appointment at LIBS. I'm making plans to go back to cosmetology school which was always my real passion.
