Increase formula amount or feedings closer together?

DD will be 1 month on Sunday. She is currently drinking 4oz of formula at each feeding but in the past 2 days, I've noticed that her feedings are getting closer together (every 2.5 hours where she had been going every 3ish hours). Do I keep her at 4oz and just feed closer together? Or should I up her formula? This is my first child so I have no point of reference - is 4.5oz too much for a 1 month old?!?!

Is she finishing the entire 4oz? Our ped always told us to make sure that DS left a little bit in the bottle. So if she's finishing 4oz, make 5oz, etc. It's our ped (and every doctor in that practice) philosophy to let the baby decide when they are done...

This is what I was going to suggest.

Yes, 9 times out of 10 she finishes the entire 4oz.....

I would up it to 4.5 ounces and see how she does.

increase the amount. you definitely don't want more feedings. the goal is to have less feedings as time goes on and them lasting longer between feedings.

DS ate every 4 hours, the hospital started us on that schedule. when he could not make it, we increased the amount per bottle. He did great and was sleeping through the night at 7/8 weeks.

As the time between feedings decreased with my kids I would slowly up their formula intake. I liked to keep them at 3-4 hrs per feeding so I increased the ounces as necessary to keep them satisfied within that time frame.

Agree...increase the amount! I wouldn't worry about overfeeding. Every baby is different. DD is 9 days old - but born 15 days early! - and already downing 3oz. And she's tiny! She just has a good appetite. I'm sure she'll be up there at a month old, too.
