vent and advice needed: 2 year old and food
My 2 year old won't eat. She used to be the best eater. She would try everything and anything. Now she refuses everything. She won't even try anything. She hates fruit. Vegetables are hit and miss - although the other night she ate sautéed mushrooms for dinner. I'm sure it is typical toddler behaviors, but it is so frustrating. To make it worse, she'll eat at daycare.
Food suggestions? Advice?
I know she won't starve....

I would probably give her one meal and if she didn't eat it then she would be, as they say SOL until her next meal. Eventually she'll learn its meal time and now is the time to eat. My 2yo is normally an amazing eater but recently will say "I want something else" she wants me to give her many options so she can pick. I realized this and now she gets what she gets and if she doesn't want to eat it she doesn't have to.

If she is eating 2 good meals at daycare then I wouldn't worry too much. Buy DS is a pretty good eater but he has gone through his stages. I figure if he eats 2 meals then anything else is a bonus. They will get over the phase and I would def not do special meals.

Exactly this.
Mine do it every so often. No options other than what is before them. This works very well: every so often, they miss a meal.
I credit this technique to them being excellent eaters & never having to order off a kids menu (we share everything family style).

DD is 2 and recently began the same thing: barely picking at food she used to love. Now, all she will eat are carbs (bagel, waffle, macaroni). She won't starve and I'm sure it's just a phase she will grow out of. I guess it's part of having a 2 year old! She also used to sit better at the table. Now, she's done and she wants out!

When DD was in that phase, I'd make her smoothies, she rarely refused those. I knew at least she'd be getting some dairy and fresh fruit. They go through these phases, it won't last forever.

My DS is the same way.. very picky eater. He is not underweight though so it as much as it is annoying it was not alarming to me... Now that we have put him on a GF diet it has been worse hopefully it is a phase for you!

Same here! I could write your post word for word. I actually get envious when I see other toddlers who will eat anything put in front of them.
My dd has started with not wanting to sit to eat, wanting 100 toys on the table, not eating things she loved like fruit. She eats a couple of veggies but she is unwilling to try anything. She learned the word yuck so EVERYTHING is yuck. EVERYTHING. It gets frustrating, BEYOND frustrating. IF she hears cupcake, chocolate, candy or cake (like when we go out to eat or at grandmas house because we dont keep that in the house) shes ALL IN and READY TO TRY anything! I try telling her different fruit is candy but she tells me no its not.

Re: vent and advice needed: 2 year old and food
No advice as we are failing at this but I'm in the same boat. He eats great at daycare, literally starves himself all weekend and refuses dinner (that he will eat perfectly fine at daycare the next day). He will also refuse dinner then ask for "snacks" constantly and absolutely throw a @#&^ fit if he doesn't get cereal or something before bed even though I tell him he has to eat at meal times or not at all. To top it off he has a dairy intolerance so I feel like I can't even offer something somewhat nutritionally useful like cheese/yogurt etc on the days he refuses dinner and I plan our entire menu around him as it is (which then he doens't eat) My DS is on the skinny side too so I feel like he needs the calories. Can you tell I'm frustrated???it was a bad night

This is DS as well (he's 3.5). Eats well at daycare, but dinner time is such a battle. He used to be a good eater. I'm at my wit's end.
