help, sick baby

DD is 9 months..

Sunday AM she began throwing up, violent vomiting. Could keep nothing down (starting at 6am).. we took her to urgent care who said they saw nothing, no fever, no respiratory infection.

She started keeping down small amounts of pedialyte that night. She was OK at home on Monday, we only fed her pedialyte.

Yesterday, OK ... she had formula mixed with pedialyte and banana, apples. No cereal.

Today, back to projectile vomiting and diarrhea, cannot keep anything (including pedialye down). Of course I am worried, she is lethargic, crying, clingy. Chat Icon

My husband called the Ped at 1 and left a message, he called back at 2 and they said the ped has the chart.

Is there a bad stomach bug going around?

Monday she had her 9 month well visit (which turned into a sick visit) and the Ped said she had a red throat with "spots" and its viral? Nothing else, just keep pushing fluids.

Can a 9 month old get strep? There IS strep going around at daycare but even daycare says its only in older kids.

Poor baby, it's rare to get strep so young, but not impossible. It sounds like it could be a stomach bug, try really tiny amounts, small sips. Keep track of wet diapers to make sure she doesn't get dehydrated.

DD1 had strep at 12 months, but no vomiting. Poor lil baby! Maybe put ice cubes in those mesh feeders? That might be "fun" for her to suck on and soothing for her throat.

DS 1 had a bad stomach virus at 3 months - it's hard.

Sometimes it takes up to 10 days for them to recover.

For DS - he was able to keep things down the first couple of days but, once we gave him formula - it would go downhill...

Re: help, sick baby

Strep throat is possible in any age and it can cause vomiting in children. Just keep her hydrated. No milk products.

Re: help, sick baby

by the time i got home to her, she was a lethargic, crying mess Chat Icon brought her to the doctor and they said she has a raging double ear infection. Umm, both urgent care on Sunday and THE SAME PED said her ears were clear on Monday. Chat Icon

I asked if that would cause vomiting, he said possible - the ear infection could be so bad that its causing dizziness (like vertigo) and she is just so worked up that she is physically ill.

He upped her advil dosage to 3.5ml and said that if she could not keep the antibiotic and some pedialyte down, take her to the ER in the morning.

By the time the higher dosage of Advil kicked in, she was MUCH better. Amox and 4oz pedialyte are in, she is asleep. Chat Icon

I was gonna say ear infection too because my dh got one as an adult and felt very nauseous like he needed to vomit. The antibiotics work quickly, thankfully.

Just because DS has been having ear infection issues lately I can say that all the doctors we have seen have said am ear infection can come on suddenly - one day to another... Wishing her a speedy recovery and finish the antibiotics.big hug to you mom !
