Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Do you vaccinate? Why/why not? Side effects? How old is dc?
Id like to hear both sides. I'm on the fence and would love to know how others feel.
Thanks!!

I do. Watching my dad suffer with complications from Swine Flu 4 years ago was borderline traumatic. DS is 2 and has had no side effects.

Yes 1yr and4 years old. No side affects. My kids catch everything at school..this is one thing I'll do anything to avoid. Until I see side affects..they felt the shot and so will I.

We don't do the flu vaccine. I wouldn't get something for my kids that I don't do myself. I find if they do get colds they recover quickly. They have pretty clean diets. They do get liquid vitamin d to help boost their systems and I adjust them too.

Day Care Moms: Flu shots
For me, it's a must. I've had the flu twice and it's awful as an adult. I can't imagine how bad it would be for an infant/toddler. DS is 18 months. He's gotten the vaccine this year and last year at 6 months. Never any side effects. It's not a guarantee he won't get the flu, but it's better than nothing IMO.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Yes she has gotten it since she was able to at 6 months. No side effects ever. Not even a fever or crankiness. She is now 3 and has had it every year since 6 months old. I do it because she is in daycare and there is way too many germs going around there. Flu is more serious in babies and young children and the thought of her getting flu scared me more than the shot. For the record- I have never had a flu shot in my life and don't plan to at this point... never had the flue either. But for DD, it was super important to me- especially with daycare.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Nope, I don't get the flu shot and neither will my kids. I don't like to give any extra vaccine to my kids. My DS is 2.5 and in preschool. My nephew got the vaccine this year (2.5 yrs old-not in preschool) and he came down with a fever as well as fever blisters on his lips for a week.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
DD is 16 months. She had a flu shot last year at 6 months, and this year at 16 months. I choose to vaccinate her because not only does she go to daycare, but I work in a preschool, where many of the kids come to school sick. I am thankful that she has never had a side effect from any vaccination.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Do you vaccinate? Yes
Why/why not? I believe in vaccines and he hasnt had any side effects.
Side effects? None, not even fever or rashes. How old is dc? just turned 5
DS had to get the Flu shot at 2 before we entered him in Daycare. He also got it on his 3rd bday. I did not get him the Flu shot last year and around New years he got the Flu. HE was on the lower end of Flu A. But he was so sick and had to be on the nebulizer. He was so sick and looked sad & he was suffering, I felt like sh!t. Never again.
DS current school requires Flu shot but I was going to get it anyway.
ETA: it to relate it to only Flu Shot

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Normally DS doesn't get the flu shot. He did get the flu twice this year (two different strands) but recovered quickly (a day for the first and 3days the second time). I'm pregnant and will be getting the shot to protect baby as they are much more susceptible to the flu under the age 6 months, Dh will get one as well as he is immune compromise because of heart surgery last year. So since everyone else is getting one ds will get one this year, but it will probably be his last year ever receiving it as long as he is general good health.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
DS is home with a nanny but I still chose to have him vaccinated. He's 9mos. He didn't have any side effects from his first dose, which was on Sunday. It's just too dangerous for babies to get the flu, IMO, so we choose to vaccinate.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
Do you vaccinate? I didn't last year but did this year because she got the flu last year. Who's to say she would or wouldn't have gotten it if I gave her the vaccine, no one knows, but I wanted to try to prevent it this year.
Why/why not? Why I didn't last year was because she was 1 1/2 at the time and was already getting a lot of vaccs in those first two years of life.
Why I did this year...see above.
Side effects? No side effects
How old is dc? 2.5

Pretty much this... Except I saw a young person almost die of the flu.

Re: Day Care Moms: Flu shots
DS has been vaccinated each year with no side effects except sore arm like us. He's now 4. DS is asthmatic & DH is diabetic. If we can keep the flu out of the house we will.
