Moms of LO's with milk allergies, come in please
My DS is almost 13 months and I still have him on Alimentum formula. I tried switching him to whole milk before he turned 1 and he kept throwing up. When we took him for his 1 year bloodwork, it showed he had an allergy to milk, and we were told to see an allergist. I went to the allergist that many people on here recommended and he did testing again that showed that DS has a milk allergy. He suggested that I put DS onto Soy milk being that he can't have whole milk. I raised concerns I had about possible hormones in soy milk but the dr. said it would be fine. DS was not found to be allergic to soy, almond, or coconut but the allergist recommended soy, since the others do not have a high fat content. What did you put your LO on if they had a milk allergy? I just wanted to get your experiences. Thanks!

I started with almond milk bc I didn't like the idea of soy. I struggled to find a good option too and tried almond milk and protein enriched almond milk but in the end I did switch to soy. None of the other options came close the calcium, protein, and fat content. I give her organic whenever possible and if I can't find that I do the GMO free Silk.

We are on Soy as well (use soydream). I also was concerned but it is true that neither coconut milk (high in fat no protein) nor almond milk (low in fat and protein) come close to the nutritional content found in soy milk (moderate fat and higher protein). Also calorie wise soy milk has them all beat by a lot. The nutritionist we met with also thought soy was our best option. As they are eating more and more table foods milk in general will become less important as they can get protein/fat sources from actual food instead of "milks". Our guy is very picky though so for now we are sticking with soy milk to supplement his regular meals.

We do half almond half coconut and in one or two bottles a day, I add about a tsp of coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great way to substitute the calories and fat your LO will be missing. If you decide to go that route, start with just a little and work up.

We do Soy milk. My DS was very skinny and needed the additional calories. He actually drinks Bright Beginnings Soy drink because it is a many calories as formula and finally helped him gain weight.

I did So Delicious Coconut milk and supplemented good fats in other ways. I was still BFing 2xs per day, I cook with olive oil & coconut oil and also fed DD avocado at least 2xs a week. Soy is literally in so many things that I didn't want to give DD even more soy...plus the estrogen link made me leary, even though I know you have to consume a ton of soy for it to make a difference. DD was able to switch to cows milk around 15-16 months bc she outgrew her allergy.

ETA, by this point Dd was a great eater and got lots of protein from meat, beans, quinoa, lentils, etc, so I wasn't really that worried about protein, just calcium which the coconut milk said it was formulated with for maximum absorption.

Re: Moms of LO's with milk allergies, come in please
My DD went from EBF to soy milk. She doesn't have any allergy to soy and never did. She started the soy at around 11 months and stopped drinking milk around 2.5 years old and not sure why. She just didn't want it anymore.
Now I give all my kids almond milk. None of them are huge milk drinkers but when they want it that is what I have.
DD is now 6 and I really do not see her out growing her allergy

My son outgrew his milk allergy, but I did do some research before he was tested. What about goats milk?? I also looked into coconut milk and almond milk.

Can you keep him on Alimentum for another few months, have him retested and then make a transfer to milk? My ped said we could keep dd on Alimentum until 2 yrs old of she didnt outgrow her allergy.
