Pre-K and FTWM

I am thinking ahead and I am curious as to how FTWM's pick-up there kids from Pre-K?

I work in Queens and don't get out until 5:00-6:00pm and have to sit in rush hour traffic. The reason why I moved to LI was for the schools and I want to send my DD to pre-k but how? Do you send them to a Pre-K near your job?

Wish I could work PT!!

when I worked full time at an office I would have done a nanny who drove or fulltime day care with a pre-k program

we don't have a universal pre-k in our district so you have to pay

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

I will use PreK at our daycare. The hours are 630 am to 630 pm and they do pre K somewhere in those hours...the rest is normal daycare.

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

My district does not have pre-k and the district I work for only has 1/2 day. With no family in the area, I'm stuck keeping DD in our daycare that has a pre-k class.

Cannot wait for next year to stop paying $$$ for one child!

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

I know some daycares will bus the kids back and forth, or you could look for a local mom that takes in kids before or after school.

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

No Pre-K for my DS. He is also in Tutor Time and will get his learning there. It is unfortunate that there really aren't many options for FTWP to put their child in Pre-K.

they have pre-k at daycare and will most likely attend there. I do know some schools offer being bused to pre-k even if there babysitter/daycare is no in the district dont know how much it cost though

Same here. Our preschool/daycare also offers a universal pre K program so that is what we will be doing (except the hours are from 7:30-6).

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

I live in Queens and work in Manhattan. My mom watches both my kids. She doesn't drive but luckly my FIL drops off & picks up my son. If my FIL wasnt able to do it I would of asked one of my friends who's DS is also in the same program and I would of paid her.

We decided to put DS in private pre-k (local catholic school) because it is more a school setting as opposed to the prek at daycare. they run the pre-k just like the kindergarten class. DS is basically running the daycare so it is time for him to move on. He needs to be more engaged or he ends up getting himself in to trouble. It is also cheaper than daycare. The Pre-k hours are 9-3 and they offer before and after care. Even with paying for the before and after care, it is still cheaper than the daycare. So it is a win/win for us.

The only issue is that after care only goes to 5:45pm. So if needed my mom will have to pick him up. Worse case, my best friend's mom lives right around the corner from the school and can pick him up for me also.

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

Thank you all so much...We have a Universal Pre-K in my district but I think its lottery. I have to find out more. If anything I was considering a daycare/pre-k in Queens near my parents just for a year.

Re: Pre-K and FTWM

Pre K class @ daycare.

I'm more worried about next year for K when I have one @ daycare and one going to school ........I'll probably have to do the early/late program @ the daycare for the older one

Do your parents watch your kid? If so, this is ideal.
