Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
I go to Dr. Trivax and have a post consult with him thurs since our first IVF failed. I don't want to put my eggs all in one basket so I'm looking to get a second consult.
A few colleagues and a neighbor mine go to and swear by Dr. Herslag at North Shore.
Does he take Empire? I heard his IVF are expensive. Anyone have an estimate as to one full IVF cycle- how much it costs? We have insurance but it eventually will max out.
TIA!!!!

Re: Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
Im at NSLIJ and with 80% ins coverage I paid about 2k OOP (not incl meds). I see a diff doc at the same practice, though. Not sure that it varies by doc though...I think its one rate for the whole clinic.

What??? That's insane! When I was with Dr.B and had GHI I believe I paid $1270 or something like that (just for the ivf cycle) and then ICSI was 1k extra.. any freezing costs (one cycle we had nothing to freeze anyway..) .. but not anywhere near 7k for the cycle!!!

Empire BCBS or the Empire Plan (state employees)? I can tell you that North Shore didn't take the Empire Plan 3 years ago when I was looking for clinics for the first time.

Re: Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
OOP for ivf at north shore costs approx $11,800 and that includes ICSI so I think the quote for 7k for insurance coverage was a bit high. I adore Dr. Cohen there - not only for helping me conceive DD but for his warmth, compassion and complete honesty. Hershlag is not my favorite but from what I hear from others he is good.. Good Luck!!!

Re: Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
I sat down with the financial counselor at north shore after my Ivf consult and that was my quote. I couldn't believe it. They said it was all due upfront too. I cried and cried and was given loan papers.
Now I'm at LI IVF and was quoted 1,500 plus icsi charge. I love Dr Brenner at my new practice. I was really sad to leave north shore but it was the best decision I made.

Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
I'm not sure if they take Empire. I had one IVF cycle covered as thankfully had my twins as a result. But I believe OOP is about 12k. I love Dr. Hershlag. I found him to not only be at the top of his game but a really warm caring person. He was the only dr. who ever asked me how many kids we wanted. I was so surprised bc it was taking so long to conceive one and he said he knew I would get pregnant. He did my retrieval and he was right. It worked! Good Luck!

ICSI was def 1k when I did it with Dr.B a few years ago.. Times have changed of course so who knows. I actually don't remember what it was with my most recent RE (Dr.T at SIRM) but it would be on the bill which is somewhere around here if you're curious and would like me to find the info! 2k seems like a lot.

Now that I think about it I think it was 1500 and 500 for assisted hatching. So 2k altogether. Hopefully I don't need it and this cycle is my bfp!
How are you feeling?? Ready to pop?

Oh yeah we did assisted hatching for all my cycles, I don't remember the cost of it but it was listed separate from ICSI. Ahh this kid was $$$
And yes, I'm ready to pop but I'm also in denial the day will really come and he'll be here. It's just SOOO surreal!! I have to see and hear him to believe it.

Re: Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
IVF at North Shore is very expensive. I used them in the beginning. I don't have Empire but I have UHC and I spent a fortune in copays. I never had a BFP with them and did 6 cycles(1 cancelled). Dr Herslag is sweet but I found that practice stubborn after many failed IVF cycles and they weren't trying to change my protocol.
I switched to Dr Trivax and got a BFP after my first failed IVF cycle with them (had a froZen). He changed my protocol and I will be 34 weeks pregnant tomorrow.
My advice see what happens during your consult first. He may change your protocol who knows. Especially if you have frozen embryos and they are ok quality. I wouldn't rush to change REs after one IVF cycle this is coming from a person who had 7 in a row.

With UHC who covers 80% I paid about $8000 which didn't include meds at North Shore. At RS of NY I only paid $400 OOP and ran out of coverage for meds(North shore milked me) paid OOP for meds and got donations from the lovely ladies on this board.

Getting info on another RE.....?? About him and insurance
Thats why I left NSUH, Hershlag was my RE, cause it would have cost me $7,000 with insurance but that included ICSI and all co-pays still too expensive. We went back to RSNY and it was less than half for everything.
Also he is a little full of himself

Thanks for the advice. I'm not rushing at all but I'm the type of person that has to look at all options. I like Trivax a lot and will see what he says on thurs.
