Re: Placenta encapsulation???
I guess I won't. But like I said... It's a one time shot. You either plan to do it or you don't.
But a second time mom can compare her experiences I'd she didn't do it the first time...

It's not like you birth the placenta and they put it on the plate and you start chewing on it
I'll gladly report back how the smoothies thing go and what I feel happens as a result afterwards... As I said, mixed into a smoothie you apparently can't taste it.
People actually do basically just that though..sometimes pieces are cut off and the mother swallows it or puts it in her mouth to supposedly help with uterine contraction.
I guess I just don't get it. We as humans have an amazing body where our uterus will contract after delivery, hormones are released on constant basis to stimulate milk production or to combat the blues etc...we have iron supplements available to us as well as every other vitamin out there. Is it really necessary to eat something that has been used as the nutritional AND waste/filtering system for our baby?
Most OB/GYN's will most likely tell their patients that no real value can come of it.
I guess the real thing that bothers me is the marketing ploys behind these things...to turn the placenta into pills, a process is initiated that basically cooks the placenta and the nutrient content would be close to nothing. So women will fork over $300 or more to do this, whereas they'd be better off taking their prenatals.
I was reading a little just out of curiousity and its a dehydration process- not sure if that means it is "cooked" or not
yes there's a few ways to do it...it can be dehyrdated (which doesn't cook out the nutrients), or steamed first which does lose some nutritional value.

Just adding that I think its near impossible to compare different births with consumption of encapsulated placenta vs not doing it. I never obviously did this and I can say my second experience was FAR better than the first just because I had been through it before. I felt great, no pp blues, good milk production etc...
I think all first time moms have a huge adjustment ahead of them..having a baby is such a big life changing event. By the second time around you know more what to expect and its just easier (for many women anyway).
Sorry for sounding so judgmental earlier and possibly offending anyone. To each their own. It is obviously not something I get or quite understand, but hey if it seems to help some moms so be it...
