Silly question about freezing milk

I bought the lasinoh freezer bags and I have two questions.

1. The lines go up to 6oz. So does that mean only I'll to 6 or you can fill beyond that line?

2. How do you store them in your freezer to maximize space? Do you lay it flat to freeze or leave them standing up to freeze?

I read the directions and can't find answers to either. TIA ladies.

I use brb bags. It says 6oz but it looks like it has more space. I put 6.5 oz

How old is your LO? If newborn, I'd suggest freezing 1-3 oz. in each bag. (since they only usually drink 2-4 oz. at a time in the beginning).

Lay flat is probably the best storing method to conserve space, but I do standing up (but I don't have a ton and rarely pump).

Depending on when you plan to use it (a few months from now?), your DC may be drinking more than 1-3 oz at a time then, so I would freeze 4-7 oz in each one. You can put more than what's on the lines in the bag. You can measure it in a Medela bottle and then pour in, and write it on the side. After defrosting just use it all within 24 hours.

Definitely lay flat to freeze! It took me a while to figure that out.

Silly question about freezing milk

DD is 7 weeks and drinking 4 to 4 1/2oz per feeding. By the time it will be needed she will be 10 weeks. Trying to start the stash now. So I'm assuming she will be drinking more by then.

i wouldn't fill them more than the 6 oz if you plan to freeze. the liquid expands when you freeze it.

i would put the medela bags in the freezer in this to freeze them flat. once they were frozen and the box was full, i would move them to another container.

I would stick to 4-5oz per bag and then some smaller 1-2oz bags for when you just need to top off a bottle. DD never took more than 4-5 ounces at a time.

I always lay them flat at first since they take up less space that way and will thaw in minutes. I never had a big stash, but someone suggested once they're frozen to stack them in small gift bags in the freezer. I thought that was a great idea since anyone with a baby probably has tons of gift bags!

I freeze in 4 oz because my twins never took more then 4 at a time. I would not have filled past the 6 oz line.

I freeze flat in gift bags. It makes for a great dispensing device. You cut a hole on the side bottom to pull the oldest milk out.

1. I wouldn't pass 6 oz, maybe 6.5 if pushing it. I learned the hard way. At one point I froze a few bags with 7 and 8 ounces, which was dumb because once it froze, it ripped the bags since it expands when frozen. But when he was under 3 months old, I froze in 3 oz batches. It wasnt until he was 5 months old, I froze 6 oz batches.
