silly question about months vs weeks (age)
Obviously on my sons 1 years birth date, I will say hes 1 years old regardless of how many weeks he technically is but whats kind of confusing is when we go to the doctor for instance and they are saying 2 months because by date hes only a little over 2 months but by weeks he is almost 12 weeks (3 months) so to me, at this age especially, for weight gain, milestones, etc. shouldnt it be going by weeks (especially when it comes to medical things like that)? i know its kind of silly but im wondering if anyone else is thinking this or even what they answer when someone asks their age.

There are not 4 weeks in a month. There are either 4 weeks and 2 or 3 days (except for february) My DD was born on a Saturday, but turned one month on a tuesday, 4 weeks and 3 days later.

Yep, they go by the calendar date. DD was born on the 22nd so that's when we say she's x months. In the beginning you can measure in weeks but 4 weeks does not mean 1 month. Especially as they get older the difference is greater.

right, i understand that there are 2 or 3 more days in a month than 4 weeks so eventually it comes out to be quite a difference and because of that, i was just wondering what the right thing to go by is for milestones, feeding, etc.

As far as weight, our ped enters her weight in the computer with her exact age (6 months 4 days for example). It tracks her percentiles based on that exact age.
I can't think of any milestones where the doctor measured or asked in terms of weeks. Are there specific ones you're thinking of?

Nope, milestones are really done by months. I don't think you need to worry about weeks anymore! It's hard because you get used to it during the pregnancy, but now go by months.

Omg. I'm so glad you asked!!! I was just thinking and talking about this today and didn't really know the answer. Someone asked me how old DD was and I wasn't sure of the correct answer. She was born 6 weeks ago or 6 Saturdays ago. But is really only 5 weeks and 5 days old. Lol. Soooo confusing.
So once she is 6 weeks then do I say she is a month and a half old? So confusing!

Everything is by months. And a range of months at that. Starting foods for example is on average started between 4 &, 6 months. Rolling over can start between 3 & 5 months.

I have said one month, just over a month, a month and a half and now am saying almost two months (she will be two months on the 19th)
