Question for those who used a bassinet for the first few weeks/months

DS is 7 weeks old and has been sleeping in a bassinet in our bedroom since we came home. DH and I have been talking about moving him into his nursery and crib soon as he's been sleeping pretty well thru the night. So for those of you who used a bassinet in your room initially, when did you transition your DC into their room/crib? How did it go? Any tips? I know every child is different but do you think we'll have a hard time?

I always let DD nap in the crib to get used to it.

We switched right over from the bassinet to the crib at 3 months and had no problems at all.

DS1 - 3 months in our room. No transition. Just put him in the crib one night instead of the bassinet and went fine.

DS2 - close to 6 mons in our room. Only b/c his room was under construction and we were moving DS1 to a big boy room. He actually was too big for the bassinet so we brought in the PnP in our room. When we moved him to the crib one night he slept better in there b/c he was more comfortable and had the room to roll over and STTN.

We didn't have DS in a bassinet in our room, but we used the rock n play instead.

When we were ready to transition him (he was just under 3 months), we put the rock n play in his room and put him to sleep in that for a week to get him used to being in the room all night.
We tried to put him down for naps in the crib during the day as much as possible as well.

Then we put him in his crib one night and that was it. He was fussy for that one night - took him a while to go to sleep and he woke up a few times.. but after 2 nights he was used to it and went to sleep in crib just fine

Moved DD to crib at 3 months. No issues at all. She actually slept better.

around 4 41/2 months, but i would put her in the crib for naps... no transition.. she was fine with it!! i was more upset lol

He went through a phase of getting up at night again. He was five months old and I was exhausted so I decided it was time and moved him. He took a few nights but it was fine after that.

DS was in bassinett in his room (our rooms were adjoining) until he was 2-3 weeks old - he slept stretched out and bumped into the sides waking himself up. We transitioned into the crib (cold turkey) with no issues. He slept better and started sleeping thru the night around 4-5 weeks.

Around 4 weeks old, I transitioned DD to her crib for naps because she could stretch out in there. Then, after a few days we switched her to the crib at night without any issue. The bassinet became too small for her as DD liked to sleep with her arms straight out at the sides.

My DD slept in the bassinet until she was 7 weeks old. She began sleeping for 5 & 6 hour stretches at night and making all sorts of noises that would wake me up but she was still asleep.

The transition was easy and each night it would take less and less time for her to fall asleep. (I always lay her down awake to allow her to fall asleep on her own)

3 months for DD and DS1. DS2 is now in there and we will be shooting for the same time frame, maybe longer because he will be sharing a room and that scares me.

DD slept in our room in the RNP for a few weeks but i would wake up every time she made a small noise so then we moved her to her room (5 steps from ours) but she slept in the RNP in her room for 4 months and then we put her in the crib. For the first few days she woke up once or twice and then within a week she was STTN.

We moved DD around 3 months, it was a really easy transition since she was getting too big for the bassinet.

I think she appreciated the extra room cause she started sleeping on her belly shortly after.

My DS was 5 months when I moved him. I started off having him nap in his crib to get used to it. He cried the first few nights but it was less and less each night. He slept great from then on, 12 hours a night.

DS#2 is only 7 weeks and I'm in no rush to move him into his own room. I BF and love having him in the room with me. So much easier.

We started with naps and then once we had his reflux under control he went right into the crib for nighttime too. I found he slept better in his crib. We tried the bassinet but with the reflux he couldn't sleep flat so he spent most of his nights in the Rock and Play.

DS was getting to be too big for the bassinet, I'm pretty sure it was at 8 weeks. I put him in the crib for a nap & he was fine, so that night he slept in there. I was the only one who had a hard time w it. Lol

Like your LO, mine had been sleeping through the night already too, so I worried it would change that but he slept even longer in there. You should be fine. Good luck!

i EBF and had my DD in our room with us til she was 6 months. it was a surprisingly easy transition.

Dd was in the pnP in our until 4 months but only b/c we moved and had to wait for her crib to be delivered. No transition she went in just fine.
I would have done it sooner but b/c we moved we couldn't.

DS1 was 7 weeks. He wasnt STTN consistently but he was a big baby and I think was totally uncomfortable in the bassinet.
DH was against moving him to his own room/crib. But then DH came down with a really bad stomach virus, so that day I moved him to his crib, not transition. Within a day or 2 he was STTN all the time!

DS2 was younger maybe 5 weeks. But we did it the same way. One day I just moved him to his crib. No really issues. DS2 didnt STTN until 7 months but moving to the crib didnt worsen his sleeping habits!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I started to put him in his cribs for his naps. He seems to do fine. He's a stomach sleeper - always has been despite what all the advice says - he just would not sleep on his back at all. One day we tried his stomach and it worked. But because he's on his stomach, he scootches himself all over the bassinet and by the time he gets up, I find him at the top of it and out of room. That's why I think he'll do better in the crib. Maybe we'll try the crib for nights next weekend after a week of napping in the crib
