How was your relationship with DH after DC...
DS is 3 1/2 weeks old and as if it's not hard enough being new parents DH and I can't seem to get along right now. I don't know if it's the lack of sleep we are getting and we are both just grumpy. He has been snapping at me. I've just been keeping my mouth shut because I really don't feel like getting into an argument. He had to go to Boston Sunday - Thursday for work and I did truly miss him while he was gone and as soon as he got home I wished it was just me and DS again. Is this normal? I knew this wasn't going to be a walk in the park but now I'm just getting miserable. I'm sure my hormones aren't helping either.

Hormones are insane! I had no idea how much they mess with you post partem. Give yourself a break. You are both sleep deprived and overworked. It will get better soon.

Re: How was your relationship with DH after DC...
Honestly, my entire maternity leave was the toughest stretch of our 13 year relationship. Everything fell back into the right place when I went back to work. I think we were both just on edge settling into our new life. I needed the structure of work, and he needed some private time without me (he works nights.....so my leave was the first period of time where I was always home during the day when he was home).

What is your DH doing different now that he wasn't before? Talk to him like a human being. And when you're talking to him, ask him to please not interrupt and please forgive you if it sounds nasty because you're not trying to be, your hormones are all over the place and just need to get this off your chest.

Honestly it's normal. DH and I very very rarely fight (of course we bicker sometimes ) but some of the worst fights I've ever had with someone came During the first few months of both my daughters lives. I think the lack of sleep and the stress of taking care of another human being really takes its toll. After a few months everything started to go back to normal.

The first few months after having each child were rough for us. Between hormones and lack of sleep, we really had no time for each other. By the first birthday things calmed down both times. Just remember that you're both in it together and the adjustment to a new baby is tough!!

Re: How was your relationship with DH after DC...
Totally normal. After our first dc was pretty smooth sailing but after our second it was really rough. I think the lack of sleep, schedule, and time really stressed both of out. My dh was great about helping out at night with the girls but I couldn't even really appreciate that when I was so exhausted. My dh works long hours 9-9/10 so I felt like everything was on me and as soon as he walked through the door I would start snapping at him. After all your whole life has been turned upside down and inside out. The good news is its gets better. Once you start sleeping everything seems brighter and easier. My suggestion is see if you can get a babysitter for a few hours and go out to breakfast or dinner. It really helps just to get out alone for a few hours.

Re: How was your relationship with DH after DC...
It is def. difficult at first, so many new situations and feelings. I found it helpful to try and talk about things when the baby was sleeping. I found we would get frustrated with each other when she was crying, then we would bicker, could barely hear each other and the baby could def. feel the tension. Nothing was getting accomplished and it was stressful. We quickly learned that it would not work like that. We sat down and talked and we told each other what we needed in certain situations. Getting on the same page early on made things so much easier.

Re: How was your relationship with DH after DC...
We still have our good and bad days. But it is totally normal to feel the way you do. It is an adjusment period and you need to give it time to figure out how things have changed. Also I would try to talk to your DH about some of what your feeling, this way you guys can try to figure out a way to make things better without biting each others heads off. Thats what worked with my and DH since at first I didn't say anything and when I finally did it was bad. Once we started open communication about it, it got alot better!

Re: How was your relationship with DH after DC...
I was the one snapping after my kids were born Lack of sleep took a SERIOUS toll on me and my attitude.
I agree that you guys should try and talk about it, and make a serious effort to be extra nice, but just know that this doesn't last forever

Def normal!! Nobody ever told me lol so I assumed we were doomed. I always had the picture perfect idea in my head that we'd be so happy with our new bundle of joy! It's an adjustment period. It gets better

Def normal! DD is 3.5 months and I've been back to work for 2 weeks and it's still tough. Make time for each other and keep working as a team.

your situation is totally normal! it will get better... very slowly.
DD is almost 6 months old. DH left for a business trip and I was actually relieved he was going. Happy to see him when he got home, for about a day, then I wished he was gone again LOL. But it's normal!!

Absolutely normal. DS was about 6 months before we finally felt like we had eased into the parenting thing and we weren't taking it out on each other. It's a huge transition in the beginning.

ITA. That first year after DS was born was the best and the worst. It will get better eventually
