Opinion on Nanny Situation
We currently do a nanny share with my brother and SIL. Our nanny watches DD (19 months) and my nephew (16 months) 4 days a week, and then only DD on Fridays. She currently works 8-5:30. DH gets home from work around 5:45, so SIL watches DD 2 days a week until he gets there, and my mom watches her the other 2-3 when DH will be late.
I am now pregnant with #2 (due in May). It is not an option for the nanny to watch all 3 kids - brother and SIL don't want that, and the nanny does not want that. Brother and SIL can't afford to keep her on their own.
We are hoping to keep her, and I wanted opinions on what we are offering her. We can't pay her what her full salary is now. We are thinking of offering her around 7% less, and her hours would be extended to 8-6, and she would (obviously) have 2 kids 5 days a week.
Do you think it is typical to pay a nanny less when they work for one family with 2 kids vs two families? Does that seem fair? FM me if you want the numbers - just don't want to post them on a public forum. Thanks!

From my understanding, nannies like doing shares BECAUSE they make more money. So no, I don't think you're wrong by offering her less than she is making now doing the share.
For example, if she is making $20 an hour in the share ($10 per family per child), then you hire her to watch both of your own children, you'd pay her $16 or 17 an hour.

Thanks! I would think the same thing. We just want to make her a good enough offer that she will stay, but obviously there is only so much we can afford.
