How many newborn diapers should I buy

I feel clueless! I didn't have to buy a single diaper for my twin until they were 8 months old that's to my shower. Plus they were premies so I really can't compare.

How many newborn diapers should I start off with?
Also this baby is measuring big..80th percentile

i would say none or maybe on small pack.

i got one pack of newborn diapers and used that up and just used size 1.

At the hosiptal they switched form size newborn to size 1 and when we took her home i got a pack of size 1.

When I was in the hospital, they were putting size 1 on DS even though he was smaller and could be in NB. I used NB when he was at home but the size 1 was fine also. DS was an average size baby (7 lbs. 4 oz.) so if your LO is measuring big, you could probably just forego the NB

I bought one box of NB and one box of size 1. I told DH I'm not opening either until we find out how big she is. If the NB are too small, I'm returning them.

If your baby is measuring big, I'd only buy one box of NB. You could always buy more, or order them online and have them the next day at your doorstep if getting out is difficult.

Id say none. Our hospital only has size 1. Even in NICU. So my 5-1 and 5-7 babies were wearing them. We put them in premie smalls for a week or so then newborn because we had them. I did go and buy a newborn pack because their legs were so skinny that they would leak because the size 1 werent tight enough on their legs. But thats when they were like 6lbs. If they were regular size babies I wouldnt bother with nb. Maybe have one pack on hand just in case. If the baby end up with scrawny legs you can always send someone out for another pack.

None! My DS went right into size 1

The hospital will supply diapers for you while you are there, so I would wait and see what you need.

the hospital had dd on size 1 diapers so we just kept her on those she was 7 lbs 12 oz

DD was 8lbs. SHe was in sz1 in the hospital. They were loose enough that they didn't rub the cord. We tried to use up NB diapers at home but they leaked. She didn't stay in sz1 long and out grew them before the weight on the package. Each baby is different so many just a small package just in case.

I agree with pp. I wouldn't buy any. If you need them someone can always run to the store for you when you get home. My DS was 8 lbs 4 oz and we used NB for about 3 days and that was only b/c they were in my diaper cake so I couldn't return them or anything.

Thanks everyone! I will buy one tiny package just to have I can always give them away or let dd use them with her dolls.

dont open the package until your LO comes home and you can always exchange them for a different size.

i would say 1 small pack or none at all. We only used maybe 1 small pack at home just because we had them. The hospital uses size 1, so thats pretty much what we used.

one small pack - i think the newborn was the only size that had the cutout for the umbilical cord if i remember?? how sad i can't remember it was only a year ago lol! but defintely have a box of size one ready

Zero. Hospital gives you some newborn diapers but really you can just go straight to size 1 and just fold them.

Both of my boys wore newborn diapers for at least a month. They were EBF so we went through at least a case of newborn diapers for each of them.

Tough question... My baby was 99% for height when born but very thinnnnnn so his skinny little chicken legs didn't fill out the diapers so we used newborn when he came home, even though the hospital had him in size 1.

yep, i'd say none also. just buy size 1's. Especially if LO is measuring large.

I don't think you have to buy any. If you want maybe just 1.

DD #1 was in newborn diapers for about a month

DD #2 grew out of them after we went through one pack which was less than a week

We had some that were given to us but when we ran out we just used the size 1. The hospital only had size 1 we were folding them over

i would say just buy size 1's. DS was in NB for 2 weeks. He was born at 7.15

DD is supposed to be around 7.5lbs and I have two small boxes that I got at my sprinkle. Not buying any others until she is here and we know what we need

ETA if LO is measuring 80th% ... but NO newborn lol

Dd was 8.8 lbs but we used newborn diapers for at least 6 weeks since she was long and lean.
