Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
Just wondering what everyone did about clothes for the first few weeks. My mom was bothering me about adding layette stuff to my registry, but it seems pretty difficult to even register for newborn basics, especially this far in advance.
Did you register for newborn onesies and clothes or did you buy them yourself? Did you receive any at your shower?
Are onesies bad at the beginning b/c of the umbilical cord? Should I get two piece outfits instead? TIA.

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
the answer is YES!
I did both. I registered for a few items (bibs, onsies, pj's) and bought a lot more on my own (in a range of sizes, but mainly 3 and 6 mo). I'm certain we'll get more as gifts...
I mainly registered for them so people could see the style of clothing we like
I've seen moms post in the past that onsies are very good for the beginning, becuase unlike 2 piece outfits, there's no waist band that could bump the stump.....

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
nope - newborn clothes (from what i have seen) only go up to 7 or 8 lbs. i am pretty sure my LO will be around 8 or 9 lbs at birth so i have only bought clothes in 0-3 months sizes. i would rather they be big on him and have him grow into them, then only last for a week.

I registered for a few onesies and PJ's but not much else because I figured people always buy you a ton of clothes anyway. I didn't register for newborn size though because they are SO small and I'd rather have the onesie be a little big so there is room to grow in there.

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
i didn't.. i have big babies.. dd was 8lb4oz and this baby is currently measuring 8lbs 9ozs with 2 weeks to go.. so new born outfits and diapers are a total waste of money. we start off with 3-6 months and stage 1 diapers..

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
I didn't and regretted it. I thought for sure DS would be fine in the 0-3 month stuff I had but he was 7lb8oz (down to 7lb the first week) and wore NB stuff for the first month. I had to send my SIL out to buy him clothes and use what we got as gifts - esp since he went through several outfits a day with BF poops I didn't put him in onesies until after his stump fell off at about 2 wks.

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
can your mom go out and just buy them for you when your DC comes? that's what my mom did.
newborn clothes go higher than 8 pounds. probably up to 10 pounds. my DS is about 8.5/9 pounds and his newborn clothes are still SWIMMING on him!
people will buy you lots of stuff in newborn. at least they did for me. onesies are fine with the stump--i liked them better than a tee because tees ride up.

According to my mom, people won't buy things for me in newborn sizes, epsecially if I don't register for them. I guess I could put a few newborn size onesies on my registry list and then see what else I need after my shower.
I live about 2.5 hours from my parents and wouldn't want to send my mom out to try to find stuff after DC is born. I know she's willing to buy layette stuff for me. She mentioned that department stores used to let expectant moms pick out a bunch of layette items and the stores would hold those items until the baby was born and someone could pick them up. She and I have no idea if that's still common practice.

I would go to Century 21 or Filenes and get a bunch of white snap outfits to get you started after your shower (if you're having one).

Re: Did you buy or register for newborn clothes?
DD was on the small side (6 lbs 4 oz) and she dropped to 5 lbs 9 oz before we left the hospital, so she was in newborn for a few months. I only got a few newborn outfits and kept reusing them. Most of the gifts that i got were 3 months and up and would have been WAY to big on her. The newborn was swimming on her for a while.
I did how ever find the gowns that Carters makes to be great. She was an October baby, so I would just put her in the gown and roll up the sleeves and then put her in the sleep sack.
The gowns fit 0 - 9 months since they can be long and grown into. You also don't have to worry about the stump either - plenty of room.
